We flew from Brisbane into Prospapine airport and then travelled the 30 Km journey to Airlie Beach, yesterday since when we have been enjoying the opportunity to chill out. The weather is hotter than hell and very, very humid, but the girls have been making fulll use of the lagoon which is only a few steps from our door. The accommodation is good …

Airlie Beach Lagoon - Relaxing

The next two days we spent relaxing by the lagoon swimming and sunning ourselves. We were really pleased we had spent a bit more money on our accommodation here because it is a stone's throw from the lagoon and we could retreat to the air con and stay out of the midday sun.

Wednesday evening we caught the train from Proserpine to Hervey …

We made the 8 hour train journey to Airlie Beach and were delighted to arrive at our accommodation; a little self-contained apartment right next to the beach.

We spent Friday relaxing at the lagoon and booked a two day boat trip to the Whitsundays leaving Saturday morning. It is less humid here, thankfully, although the sun feels fiercer …

A trip to the Great Barrier Reef

... began, as the captain put it, to 'rock and roll'. We were informed that this would last about 45 minutes until we reached the protection afforded by the barrier reef itself. This was the case and the crew produced sick bags, ginger, ice and cold towels. We were both glad we had taken precautions with Nick grateful for not relying on any ‘alternative’ therapy, though he did note that sturgeon, which had prescribed many times in the past, does ...

Sarah felt a little sick so got some tablets as the boat was at 45 degrees again and we had to change sides 3 times to change direction. Despite all of this effort, we lost the race to Tongue Bay where we set down anchor for lunch. We then went ashore so that we could walk to the viewpoint on the island and ...

Our room was clean and well equipped with a kitchen etc. Right beside the lagoon, it was perfect for the two girls. The small town of Aiirlie is perfect for what we wanted and well positioned for taking the Barrier Reef tours.
