Bye Bye Honeydew

... a little tour of Dresden too which was really nice! There are some pretty impressive old building. Well technically they are old but were almost destroyed in the war. They have only been rebuilt in the last 5 to 10 years which is amazing! Had a wicked Turkish vegie plate then said our goodbyes and got on the train back to Berlin. Back to public transport for us!

Pretty City, almost Chunder

... that I have been laying in bed shivering one moment, sweating the next and can't stop coughing! I have been hallucinating about killing people in my dorm room with a crossbow because they seem to like rustling plastic bags for hours at 6am in the morning. I can't be sure if I yelled out “Calm down b*tches” or if I dream t ...

My little adventurous day

... city that was so old, I was amazed at how little was left after the bombings. It looked as though I was in Darwin, a city that has been twice destroyed in its life time. Everything was new and modern, but what was truly incredible were the old buildings that either survived or had been rebuilt. These buildings were absolutely beautiful in their intricacy. Whats more is that most of the ancient buildings had to be rebuilt, a painstakingly slow process. You could see ...

Dresden and history

... study European history as much as he did.

Dresden was ruled by the same family for many years and became Protestant during Martin Luther's fall away from the Catholic faith. When Augustus II (I'm skipping many intervening years) because the Grand Elector of Dresden, he started building and making changes. One thing he did was start collecting tax on items moving through his city, thanks to one of his counts suggestions, which made his family very ...

First weekend away...

... that there were only boys singing, they were hitting such high notes, but it was amazing. It was my favorite moment the entire weekend. After the performance, a few short prayers were said, along with a sermon (I think, but it was all said in German so who actually knows what was said). When everything was finished, I walked outside and joined Katy and Steven (who had snuck out before the prayers) to eat. They had gotten to some of the booths at the festival (from the ...

Car trip

OLD MASTERS HAVE ME WALKING ON AIR!

The neighbours tell us they are going to the Gemaldegalerie Alte Meister as it has a lot of the old master paintings in it. Hmm, this sounds good, so I think I will check it out.

We are actually going back into town as we saw them setting up for a bicycle rally on the square. We saw all kinds of beer tents going up yesterday. We take the bus into town and walk to the old part. The square is busy with bikes and ...

What a beautiful day!

Although weather in summer this year was not very growthy, we were lucky that on this day it was a marvellous day. A bit chilly, but sunny.
We also invited my husband´s aunt Blanka to join us as it was her birthday. I was driving and everything went smoothly on the road so we reached Dresden in about an hour and a couple of minutes.

Jirka and I are both zealous geocachers so we started our tour at the Church of the Holy Cross ...

Dresden, Germany - en route to Prague

... hour. It was a one hour ride into central London, which left me super early for lunch with my friend Cindy (who I went to Hopkins with). I got off a few stations early to walk for a bit, since I had plenty of time. A word of advice - London tube stations are further apart than they might appear. I walked around St. James Park and then past Buckingham Palace. The queen is doing fine, in case you were wondering. Then I proceeding along the Thames to meet Cindy for lunch by the ...
