      Off to Manchester after supper to be next to the airport for the early morning flight! Need to check in at 6.40 am (sigh)... But very excited to get on the way! Hoping for an upgrade due to it being my birthday (10th feb), however, will be very surprised if i get one! Fingers crossed. Etihad flight to Bangkok via Abu Dhabi ...

      Up and going with no problems.
      Downstairs for one more lovely breakfast.
      Straight forward check out.
      Short walk to the Leeds railway station to catch the train to Manchester Airport.

      Ticket in hand, standing on the platform, about to board train.
      SMS arrives on my phone from KLM - our flight to Rome has been cancelled!

      ... for. He was there to meet us as we came off the platform then it was a drive through Manchester out to the North West to get to Prestwich.

      ... time at 11.20. It was brilliant to be home but it still felt a bit weird to be here after being away for so long. I have been away for 436 days and for Jay it's 350. After successfully negotiating passport control, baggage reclaim and customs we emerged from the airport to a cold but extremely wonderful Christmas Day with our families. It was an extremely chilly 3 degrees and the shorts and t shirt that I had on now seemed like a very bad idea!!!
