    ... to be attacked, the townspeople left their homes and went to "live" in the citadel. It was equipped to live in with food and shelter for a few months. It was believed to have been built in the early 1200s. How crazy is that? It was made with stones and bricks for its walls, and wood for its gates. Again, it was something I had never seen. We took a "train" partway up the hill and walked the rest of the way.

    ... that most of the fireworks they were letting off had actually been banned in New Zealand years ago! The fireworks which were let off were quite scary as there was a massive crowd and we heard windows smashing. It was really weird seeing so many sober people at New Years compared to back home haha.     After my walk around the palace, I made my way to Unification square for the start of a walking tour. En route, I stopped at a bakery for a breakfast snack of a sausage baked in bread (I can't for the life of me remember what it was called!).     ... And then I descended. As I headed back to the hostel, I found a park filled with kids sledding down what looked like a pedestrian pathway. They used those old-fashioned wooden sleds with metal skis, they were laughing, falling, stumbling, running into each other.
