Woke up to see what we had driven into last night. Still seeing stars from the blueberries. Magnificent formations, ancient carvings, Arch Rock, and scenes to match any. Then we drove toward Grand Canyon and through Zion Nat. Pk. More awesome formations. Worth the detour. Our final push to the canyon fell short so we stopped at Coral Pink Sand Dunes SP. ... canyon totally to ourselves, no-one else around. It was awesome! Like an adventure playground for big kids, with a different hurdle every 20 m or so. One minute we were climbing down sheer cliffs, then "stemming" across narrow gorge (this is a technique where you jam yourself in between two rockfaces and shuffle along, 10m or so above the bottom!). ... birding. Before I knew it they were back and it was time to start driving to Kanab to start our 4 days at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. This is something our daughter was really looking forward to and begged us to stay as long as possible.
