Last night we sailed from Hull to the Hook of Holland, and landed at Europort, the busiest port in the world. Our cabin was comfortable and the crossing smooth, but I found it difficult to sleep. We caught a connecting bus from the ferry to Amsterdam. The trip took about an hour and forty minutes. I slept most of the way, and woke just in time to see some windmills and extremely flat farming land.

Canals and oranje craziness on Koningsday

On a warm sunny Saturday 230 oranje clad expats climbed into five fairly teeny boats for four hours of canal cruising. At 11am we crack open our first beers on our orange boat from our well stocked chilly bin and take off. There are 34 of us standing around the edge of the boat balancing and hoping we don't fall victim to the dirty, rubbish filled canals. Marcelle, Jorrit, Lucy & Gabby are also on our boat.

... Belgium and The Netherlands we noted that the roads in Belgium and the Netherlands were far better than in france. Also the highway was truck city - as bad as the old Hume highway with wall to wall trucks in both directions. As the roads were two/three lanes and divided there was no problems apart from the rain which lasted the whole trip north so visibility was limited.
