... peaks. The sun finally came out in the late afternoon after it being a breezy and somewhat cool day. Our neighbor, Mike, has lived here for fourteen years and is a great fan of Montana. He took his electricians license test in Helen and worked in Butte, Anaconda and Coalstrip, back in the day. He's a very interesting character, sporting a nicely groomed "flat top." ... out and we had a wonderful time getting back into the groove. After a couple of easy practice runs we did intermediate runs where Pete was kind to make sure I was keeping up. He then went to the summit and I did a couple of runs on my own. We then met for coffee - they serve a good latte - and had the final run together. Lovely. ... feet down. We then took a nice drive to a Moore family favourite: Emerald Bay. On the way home we stopped at Chambers Landing Bar which was right on the lake. It was a stunning day for it with not many people around. That night we all met up with family friends, Jenna and Errol, at Errol's sushi restaurant Mikuni’s where Brett and Logan will be working over the Winter.

... We thought we were fine but then when we got out of Reno on 395 we drove up on heavy snow. All cars were diverted to talk to someone from state highway. I asked if we should turn back since we did not have chains. The person working the diversion told us to be careful and kind of giggled. He then bought every piece of mining equipment in the area - from handkerchiefs to shovels, and when the masses came looking for equipment for the adventure, guess who sold it to them? Mr Brannan, at a 100% mark-up - making him a very rich man by the time the first would-be miners hit the foothills. Most of those who went received little reward, but merely the promise of gold made Sam Brannan a very rich man.
