Last Leg Homeward to PA

... in the motel lobby. Coffee was burnt. The cereal was all I felt like eating. White bread, sticky sweet pastries, and goopy waffle batter were big turnoffs.
We were soon back on the road again and all was good. A short distance in Indiana and then we reached Ohio where we spent a good deal of time, and finally PA. At some point in PA, we figured we would reach home around 6 PM - so we called Enterprise ...

... from the exit of GM. After a short lunch, we drove on through the Michigan countryside where we viewed our first deer running across an open meadow, a beautiful sight. We also saw quite a few wild turkey by the side of the road.
We reached the Canadian border at Port Huron where we were met with another downpour from the same storm. Our border wait took about five minutes and a pleasant agent welcomed us and we were free to enter. Welcome to Canada, eh!

... biodiesel - our sprinter engine warranty has an issue if there is more than 5% biodiesel in the fuel - not sure how they would know. After a few unsuccessful attempts to obtain biodiesel-free fuel in Illinois and Indiana, we gave up and drove on to Michigan where we found what we needed. We lost another hour on the clock and arrived in Battle Creek at 7 pm.

We saw a lot of corn and soy farms ...

... Quiet. Great amenities, too. I actually don't feel tired from driving. What a difference comfort makes. I almost didn't go with the rental! The traffic was not too bad. Plenty of trucks, a few stretches of single lane construction areas, and two passes through rain - once in PA and once in Ohio. We stopped three times along the way, ...

... snoozes later and once the alarm was shut off, we got up around 7AM. I wasn’t quite ready to become vertical yet so I rode in the camper as Dad moved it across the parking lot to a gas station. It was very odd riding that short spell. It was loud (the trailer brakes) and bumpy and I was ready to be back in the truck. I felt hung over as I wobbled to the truck cab, my eyelids feeling like they had weights on them....
