... Shop is just on the outskirts of town, not far from where we had set off from. Having finally arrived we sat down to a great coffee and had a browse around her little shop. For those of you who are not sure about who Maggie Beer is, she is co-host of 'The Cook & The Chef' on the ABC, a passionate cook and author of several cook books. Everything she produces is from local and seasonal produce and tastes great, like real home cooking. Her passion for ...
Tanunda, South Australia, Australia serenitynow... in toffee sauce. Heaven. A wonderful innovation that we should all be grateful to the Barossa region for is sparkling Shiraz; it's red wine and it's fizzy - who knew? - and makes for a winning combination in my eyes. We tried several as we made our way around the wineries. At our next stop, a short walk through the vineyards, I vowed that I would never again settle for a cheap bottle of plonk - not while there is such pleasure to be derived from the good ...
Tanunda, South Australia, Australia rachelhwalsh... to Kangaroo Island KI this afternoon. Everyone we have met so far, have talked highly of KI so we are really looking forward to it. It is know for sea lions, seals, pingvins, etc. so we are going to get big on nature the next 2 days. And finally a little note on the weather; as soon as we moved state, from Vic to SA, the weather has been fantastic. In Barossa we have had 30 and high sun and it's the same for KI. We love great weather! Bye for now. XX L&M
Dupa ...
Tanunda, South Australia, Australia gapostol... this one was open only during weekends. So, without any refueling, we did the one more hour of walking and got back to the caravan park really tired but quite satisfied overall. Caring to look on the Clare Valley tourist information brochure- mind you, after the walk; good planning, G! - we've realized that this loop was about 12 miles/18 km long. No wonder that L could not get out of the chair for a while after getting "home!" The next day we spent a few ...
Tanunda, South Australia, Australia gapostolSpent a great week Wwoofing at a beautiful little farm. Wwoofing (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) means you go and work about 4-6 hours a day on farms/properties in exchange for food and accommodation. We had a brilliant time, and learnt a lot about keping a small holding. Jess is now even more determined than ever to get horses,a couple of cows, alpacas, dogs, a sheep, goats etc etc ( the list is pretty much endless, much to Danny's ...
Williamstown, South Australia, Australia dannyandjess... up for our first night in the van which was plagued by the cold weather but more so by the annoying little bugger of a mosquito which kept us awake most of the night. Things could only get better. The next day we awoke bright and early and decided more vineyards were on the agenda so after a quick brekkie we headed out. We rocked up to the first place at 9.30am and on parking up decided it was a little too early to be getting on it so we managed to read for half an hour ...
Tanunda, South Australia, Australia badgers07... around various areas of the tranquil Barossa, before venturing into the Yalumba Winery. To me Yalumba don't make exceptional wines but that had a couple of really nice single estate Rieslings on offer and the staff there were really helpful. Also the winery itself was a stunning collection of old time building amongst leafy greenery. I wanted to head to the Penfolds and Hensecke wineries who make two of Australia's ...
Barossa Valley, Australia jag... The following morning we went to Penfolds for a tour and wine brewing lesson. The tour wasnt the best as we didnt really get to see much of the process, just the storage warehouse. But the brewing lesson afterwards was good fun. We were given bottles of this years Shiraz, Grenache, and Mourvedre and asked to try out three different brews of each, measured by percentage and noting the percentages as we went along. When we were finished ...
Tanunda, Australia colandsand... an emu and he was having none of it!
Thankfully a little 'roo saved my blushes, even if he did play a bit hard to get!
The keeper then kindly told us that the metal shed that we'd walked through to get into the ...
