    Arrived safely after a great flight from Australia. Traveled business class with Singapore and get 10/10 for service and great food. Transferred to Lufthansa and again good service but beds not as comfortable. First day just wandered around Manchester and got our bearings. Busy place and very industrial.     ... Whatever happened to the United States of Europe? I remember when you could visit most countries in Europe and only have to make a single trip to the Bureau de Change!! Our route will start from Venice where the Euro is still king. Our first port of call is Split in Croatia (the Kuna). Next we stop in Kotor, Montenegro. Here the Euro is their national currency although they don’t have their own mint!! Not to worry, I’ll make sure I bring plenty of Polos ...

    ... and returning to Europe.

    We spend 2 days in Dubai last time and only saw a fraction of the city. Since then our ‘must see’ list has grown bigger. Amongst other things, we plan on sailing down the creek in a dhow, watching the dancing fountain outside the Burj Khalifa and a trip to the Palm; the man made artificial island in the shape of a Palm.     ... of it much simpler than that. Roisin (who else??) contacted our hotel and told them we need to apply for a visa. They sent us a form that we then filled in and returned to them. Within a few hours we received an invitation together with a voucher for the hotel. These documents together with the visa application form, passports and a little matter of an 87.50 fee had to be sent to the Consulate in London. However, as Roisin was going to be in the ...
