      As with Clifford's Castle in York, Nottingham Castle was another of those defensive positions built in wood by William the Conqueror in the late 1060s.It doesn't survive but its latest manifestation built in the 1660s does, although there have been extensive modifications in subsequent centuries.

      • After settling in last night we went to the Angel pub in Yarwell for dinner. Great little pub very 'tastefully' furnished with a very warm welcome. Food was good, plenty of it and reasonably priced.
