... Rich as later that day he played in a golf competition at a local club, whilst I patiently waited in the campervan. During the dinner afterwards we were given a mention for being 'guests from the UK', followed by an unsure round of applause! That was followed by our prize... a lettuce, although being told we could camp at the golf club was a bigger prize for us!

The next day it was time to head south to the Franz Josef ...

... this with weather like this. We cruised into Picton and considered staying at the local top10, but instead opted to head out of town a little and along the beautiful Queen Charlotte Drive road to Smith's Farm Holiday Park. A nice little setting but being near animals, a lot of bugs, but we were planning on heading to Abel Tasman National Park in the next day or two as the weather was forecasted to be good and we thought we'd make the most of it up there, before heading back to Picton ...

As we broke off into our respective groups, and after a crash course in kayaking and safety we headed out into the surf and towards the Tonga island which was home to a seal colony. The sea was rough but Carlos made the most of it. I shared a kayak with him while the other couple were newlyweds and followed close behind as we circumnavigated the island, the one side offering decent rough waves and offered plenty ...

... zu sein.
Die Natur hier is schon echt immens schön und sehr abwechslungsreich: man wandert so in einem Regenwaldähnlichen Waldgedöns umher und keine 3m später steht am auf einmal in einer sehr trockenen, dornigen, spanischer-Hochsommer-ähnlichen Umgebung. Ziemlich cool, mir hats ziemlich gefallen.

... Nelson Arts Festival which I found out had a street art exhibit with 23 works from Banksy. The exhibit was put on with the help of a private collector loaning his Banksy prints for the occasion. Many prints were thought provoking and all in all was a great day. To top it off we spotted a pig being brought for a walk with its leash…I guess pigs are the new dog.


The last couple days have been filled with the rugby quarter finals and a trip to Abel Tasman National ...
