Can't believe we're camping on the shores of Lake Champlain!!! We've had incredible experiences in this area of New York. This state continues to keep us on our toes!! We had an amazing hike through the Ausable Chasm where the river was rushing through a canyon of steep walls with incredible force (especially after several big storms the days before our visit.

... The original plan was to eat a lunch of PB and J’s, granola bars and bananas at the lake, but the black flies were terrible there, so we turned back into the woods eating as we hiked. We spotted a really cool bright orange salamander on the trail who was kind enough to hang out on a rock while we did a quick photo shoot. My mother took the laundry to the Laundromat and did the shopping, then we went to the soda fountain and got a hot fudge sundae with whipped cream and nuts for a quarter. We had a dime to spend at Woolworth’s and it was always difficult to figure out what to get. I remember saving up for three weeks to get… something… I forget now, but it must have been important.
