Okay let's see if we can catch up with some of what we have been up to. Today is July 3rd so that means it has been awhile since our last update. A lot of our time has been involved with trying to find a new place to live. The place we are in now was originally only for one week - it does not have a telephone or internet connection so we didn't want to be here for too long. Oh well, as it turned out we decided to extend our stay until July 13th - that makes it a one month rental. We have call...
San Miguel, Mexico donde... were half empty, so must be like a ghost town outside the month of the Feria. Every second place was selling booze & many of the people were laden with litre cups, the full one stacked in a pile of emptys! Other areas were more family orientated, the park with the busy bandstand, the fairground rides, fast food stalls and they'd roped in the Voladores of Papantla too!!. Armed with a caguamon of Indio, I went to watch an avant garde French band - the beer helped improve appreciation ...
Aguascalientes, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico ccchrissie... the area. As I mentioned in my previous blog, the most amazing thing about the pier is that it is now surrounded by water and one would never suspect that during my last visit in 2001, while standing at the same place, the lakeshore was about a kilometre from the "muelle". It is for that reason that on some of the photos palm trees at the beach are growing in the water. At the time that they were planted ...

Ajijic, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico lobo... the stench of rotting fish that permeated the beach and the hazard to getting pricked with the needle-like fish bones that where so abundant on the beach. Looking back on it now it makes we wonder why we even went to the beach and furthermore why would we go swimming. I can only speculate that formerly, people were less sensitized to pollution and were more willing to put up with it. Furthermore if you went to Point Pelee National Park the beaches ...
Ajijic, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico lobo... Guadalajara was one of several. As we rumbled along on the one hour bus ride through the beautiful scenery on our way to Ajijic on Lago (Lake) Chapala, the thought of arriving late in the day in one of the most desirable tourist and expat locations in the Guadalajara area without a hotel reservation started to play on our minds. We were in the middle of the holiday season as there were only two days left in the year 2008. What non-sense am I writing here? I ...
Ajijic, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico lobo... Economy: Industrial city - site of a Nissan plant --------------------------------------- --------------------------------------- -------- "I wrote in an earlier blog, for instance, that San Miguel de Allende provided a soft landing for expats into Mexican life. Aguascalientes on the other hand, I would describe as being a "near crash". I would not recommend this city for the average expat ...

Aguascalientes, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico amazingjourneys... it's souped up speakers were several of the boys from last night clutching bottles of tequila and bacardi. They drove us a couple of hours out of the city to a dam famous for it's seafood restaurants where we passed the day feasting on gigantic prawns and yet more tequila. It felt strange to be driven around by a yodelling youth swigging rum but drink driving doesn't seem to have the same stigma attached here as it does in the UK. Is it because everywhere is so far ...
Aguascalientes, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico lisaviro1981Finished our work at the company. I rode with one of the employees in a little 1.6L car. I was shocked at his musical taste, 80's American rock. He had two CD's, Depeche Mode and U2. He said that he and his friends really enjoy this genre of music. The next time that I visit I am going to take a few CD's to give away, I know that at the very least I can get them cheaper. We were taken to dinner ...
