... tour the island (lots of history & a civil war fort) and of course - The Grand Hotel. I watched the movie "Somewhere In Time" yesterday so the Grand Hotel would be fresh in memory - I simply MUST walk the grand porch, sit on the bench where Richard sat AND find the tree where he & Elise first met. ... a film explaining the discovery of gold the formation of
the town. We wandered around the town which had several period buildings, a functioning blacksmith shop and a recreation of the saw mill near which gold was discovered. After a picnic lunch we headed north on CA Rt. 49 to “Nevada City” an old gold mining town where we strolled Main Street of the historic district and did a little shopping.
... the wooden sidewalks past the
beautifully restored store fronts containing restaurants, bars, ice cream parlors’, candy stores clothing stores and souvenir shops. We also walked down to the river where there is a paddle wheel boat that is now a combination restaurant, bar and hotel. It was an enjoyable afternoon.
It's funny how when I woke up this morning I wasn't sure if it was a dream or not that I was in Bangkok. But then I pinched myself, smiled and started planning my day! Yesterday I toured the Wats (temples) around the city and took boat busses up down the river. The temples were so ornate ...
... until like 9:00pm, not including eating dinner.
I learned so much on this trip. I won't do another trip like this. I might send out videos to my email list since I took some cool ones but this website doesn't accept my video files.
