... out of 473 km) is behind. It felt like we'll never get to Manali. The guy sitting between the driver and myself was also extremely irritating - falling asleep on me, like I was his best friend, or something.
Even when we passed the last pass the road didn't want to finish. Some ten kilometers from Manali we discovered that we were really lucky - a (rear) tire exploded loudly. Thanks G-d it didn't happen to us in the night on one of these snow covered turns.

Manali, Himachal Pradesh, India maxint... divided by an uncrossable river. In an oversight, we missed the last possible ride back across and were forced to walk the 6km back to our accomodation. That night, we arranged to meet back up with a few English girls, one of whom was celebrating her birthday...or going home day...or something. who cares, it was a chance to relax and have a few beers without rushing home. Big mistake. See, the party was back across the river--late at night--and we ...
Manali, Himachal Pradesh, India hildreth75... quite a lot you know, it is 300 rupees until she tells me she cannot help, because I have not paid for phone banking! Finally, I get them, they unlock so I can get out 3000 rupees, and I go and I get a cup of coffee and a cigarette and this dog, it sees me, and comes over for a rub and only then do I feel okay, until then I am like this girl in the movie. I'm going to get a big bag of diamonds. No more cards. It will be heavy, but ...
McLeod Ganj, Himachal Pradesh, India hammitt... blue laser bolts from her fingers which made all these stars fall out of the bloke with the bad hair's ears. Then he was crying with the kid as for some reason he had had his tache and mullet shaved off to reveal a handsome Bollywood star, now the ladies were interested. This was only about half way through but I had run out of patience for this madness and plugged into my iPod. Manali - not what I expected/hoped for, it is a tourist town, a holiday resort not just for ...
Manali, Himachal Pradesh, India awfullook... dusty, and generally miserable. The hardship of the workers who built the American railroads are well documented. However, those guys had nothing on the Indian laborers we passed working on the Manali to Leh highway. Cooking asphalt on a fire in a desert at 1600 feet is not a job I would want to do. We crossed the Baralacha pass (16,500 ft) and the Telang pass (17600 ...
Keylong, India greenwhs... a very sad pony with a death-wish. Also, he was tied to five of his brethren carrying a Korean tour group, while being beaten by a pony driver with a big stick. At first I named my animal Shadowfaxe but towards the end I secretly called him Eeyore which seemed much more fitting. He accomplished the mission though, and I wish that he finds the happiness he so obviously lacks. Also, I hope the pony driver finds a different outlet for his rage ...
Manali, India monostratos... year to do the job. There are plenty of other cities and towns in India that could use the same service, and indeed, around the world. Rabies shots as well. In lieu of that, it is only a matter of time before the old-fashioned method of poisoning or clubbing comes back, legal or not. Of course pretty much all lawmakers everywhere are completely out of touch with the ramifications of a law on the people that have to abide by it. This works the same ...
Manali, India bloomer... one tyre change. Every few hours a collection of tents would appear which were small restaurants which have clearly sprung up as a result of the Leh to Manali route. We pretty much arrived on time, the camp site was better than expected with good tents including beds and matresses and even a couple of very welcomed western toilets! After dinner everybody on the bus pretty much knew each other (all ...
Zaspani in ne prevec voljni sami iskati primeren hotel, smo enemu ...
Dharamsala in Amritsar, India repa01... grappa. Quite nice, actually, would go well with a splash of soda over ice, and at a hundred rupes for a fifth, it is the only bargain around here. Also it is much cleaner and less insanity-producing than Fenney, or Urrak, or most of the other local regional "moonshines." There is, of course, a large Tibetan (and other) Buddhist population here, with temples abounding, and Tibetan culture and people everywhere. I have made a couple of friends here, and many ...
