... Edinburgh soon though..
Anyway, day trip to Ellon, which is just half an hour out of town. Yay! Friend from uni lives here so went round, watched movies etc etc. Nothing too interesting, but it was nice to be away from the dorm for a bit! Leaving for holidays in a few weeks so things will finally get just a little more interesting. Until then, back to the books I go..
... Hong Kong to start, then Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and Brisbane. Then cool down in Dubai for a couple of days. Everything after Canberra will be done by train - I want to actually see some of the country! I would have LOVED to do more - go up to Cairns or to Adelaide, Tasmania, and the red centre and the west coast, but time and funds simply do not allow. Oh well - more reason to come back!
So this shall be part two of my Mini ...
A month in and no activity? What's going on, Sarah?
WELL.
Moved in OK, Freshers week was a blast, but I just haven't quite gotten to the exploring part yet. Made a trip down to the beach, a few around town.. And it's actually quite nice here. It's cold yes, but it's a fairly quiet city. Not too big but not too isolated.
However uni [the evil *******s] have decided to give ...
... all taken care of the adventuring will begin. I'm starting to think Ill hop over to Dublin for a day or two before I start traveling south because I am dying to taste their Guinness! Ill write as soon as I know, but I think Ill be lounging around Scotland for two weeks while I get my ducks in a line. Obviously there isn't much to log yet but i promise it will get interesting soon!!!!
Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom courtneynew... most things are labelled in arabic there. I'll let you know if it really helps or just extra deadweight when I get there. I shaved my hair off last night too(with the dodgy aid of the reflective side of a cd-rom) so I could do without hair gel or shampoo.
To be honest I haven't really been excited about the trip till last night when I did a little more research on where I'm going. Now its all come in a rush and I wish I was leaving today instead!
... I'll be back in Tucson by 8:35 p.m. I've drawn some conclusions from my trip to Scotland. First, it's not as foreign as I expected. Once you get over the accent and the fact that they drive on the other side of the road here, it's easy to forget that you're abroad. The day-to-day life seems very similar to that in any town of a similar size in the U.S.
Even so, there are a few things I've liked about Aberdeen ...
... and walked over to George (retired butcher) and Dorothy's with Liz and Ian Hendry for a wonderful evening of good food, fun, and company. We finally left for home about 12:30am and topped off the evening with a night cap Sorry I've been a bit behind.. I hope to get photos posted for these latest entries in the next day or two.
Aberdeen, United Kingdom sjsalbert... if we can check in one of her bags as ours, to save her 70 pounds of excess baggage charge. She has three big suitcases and a huge suit/dress bag. We agree, although s is very uncomfortable. "Come on, no one does that these days". We act as if we are travelling together.B, the lady says she's been travelling for 6 weeks in europe and has ended up with many dresses for her friends, and jokes that she can act as our nanny . S's level of paranoia swells when 15 mins after boarding the plane, theres no sign of B ( the lady ). I tell her its allright. Fi
Aberdeen, United Kingdom martess... area. When the time came to say good bye and head back to Roselynds' he wouldn't let us leave withou a beautiful Scotland calendar to spread the word about his bar. It was our first day in Aberdeen and we felt most welcome. 2 out of the 5 days of our stay were spent exploring castles. And that was time spent well. We chose to follow the castle trail and the drive was just ...
Aberdeen, United Kingdom schlossie... typically order Macallan when I'm in the mood for a single malt, but they allowed other makers to gain my mindshare. I've got lots more to choose from now. The Glenfiddich tour took a couple of hours total, and Macallan was a complete disappointment, so we blew off the rest of the tour and headed for Inverness. We would have a couple more distilleries to stop at before we were done with this trip, so I didn't feel like we were missing much.
