... attract tourists. There was never a distinct set of formations that made up the twelve, probably more like dozens, although with the constant erosion, they disappear everyday. In fact just a few weeks ago one of the stacks fell, leaving just 6 distinct towers. So if you want to see them, you better get here quick!
We spent the night in a quaint little town named Port Campbell, which was not much of a port really, just a sleepy hamlet ...
... copperhead snakes. Saw some noisy birds which looked a bit like thrushes, which we hadn’t encountered before. Next stop was Kennett River where it was supposedly possible to see koalas in the wild. Paul was convinced we wouldn’t see any, and refused to park up. He had to eat his words when I spotted three within a 50m stretch, all clearly visible from the car! These are the first truly wild koalas we have found ourselves ...
Port Campbell, Victoria, Australia busafam... great road as there was no sign of the ocean for quite some time. But then we reached the first view-point, and suddenly the sun came out too which stayed with us until afternoon and created amazing colours. We walked all the coastal paths at the Bay of Islands and Bay of Martyrs which continued to offer new amazing views, and we also walked on a great beach - without any other tourists. Shortly before Port Campbell, there was one sensational rock formation after the next ...
Port Campbell, Victoria, Australia mugita... shave, cleanse, rinse, repeat x2. Not on your nelly. Today, my shower lasted approximately 1 minute. Not through choice either. In my half asleep daze, I got undressed, soaked my hair, started shampooing it like the lady off the Herbal Essence adverts. I opened my eyes and to my horror there was a massive, hairy, 6 inch black spider on the back of the shower door, where my towel was hanging on the hook. I was incapable of doing anything. I froze to a halt ...
Port Campbell, Victoria, Australia katieandphill-- Entry Two -- Actual Well we made it to the South Coast and to the Twelve Apostles; plus the many of the other rock formation along the coast. The wind was incredible as the rain came in spurts. Generally we only had to wait a couple of minutes for it to clear but the wind was relentless. We were told that the wind ...
Twelve Apostles, Victoria, Australia ejl0207... I only heard about the frost, I thought it safer to stay in bed till it had thawed... you know, you have to be careful re-acclimatising to the cold after months in Asia...!) and we had a good walk up to 'The Pinnacle' which left me gasping for breath and wondering how I ever did Everest Base Camp a few months ago... too much eating and drinking and not enough exercise since then, God I need to take action... and soon! Port Fairy ...

Port Campbell, Australia ecki... it gets cold in the day!) but its on a great little reserve with an estuary at the back of the site which within a couple of feet runs into the sea. On our first wander around the town in the search of food (what a surprise) we were greeted by an almost movie image of 2 kids surfing under the incredibly small pier as the sun was still setting magnificently behind them so all we could make out was the silhouettes. Classic. That's not the wind you can hear dear, that's the sea.
Port Campbell, Australia pumpkinqueen... We arrived at our hostel in Apollo Bay in the early afternoon. Unfortunately the hostel was a bit of a disappointment. The kitchen was full of flies and the whole place looked like it hadn't been redecorated or cleaned since the 70s. We ended up spending the evening in a local pub to get away from the squalor! The next day we headed to Port Campbell. We arrived quite early in the day. The hostel was a slight improvement ...
Lorne, Australia eve-michael... with a beach slap bang in front. The pitch we had was great, lots of space, our own burn (and lots of duck poop), and several angry sounding pigs that kept us awake at night. We think they were pigs, but they might have been vexed koalas. After another morning beach run (but this time including some hills and a bit of cross-country) we went back along the Great Ocean Road, taking more time. The stops we made were: 1) Mait's Rest - a loop ...
