          Wine tasting in Sonoma

... blend, a big fruity Cab Sauv and a nice $45 Pinot Noir (Los Carneros). The final taste was of what they called a white port - basically a fortified Sauvignon Blanc - don't tell the EU commissioners! Overall verdict was of some nice wines, but the tasting experience after such a great back story was disappointing - the large tasting room with multiple parallel tastings was soul-less and the family member serving seemed to have no time to chat. However, it made a good starting ...

After leaving Bodega Bay, we veered from our coastal trail and headed east toward the Sonoma Valley wine region where the grape vines take over open fields and the sun warms the dry air. We were pretty thrilled to see the thermostat in the car not only break 70 degrees, but also 80! We felt heat again for the first time in weeks, and it felt great. We were also greeted by our old friend, the sun. We set up camp at a nice campground in Sugarloaf ...

Our last full day in San Francisco took us to Muir Woods - home of the giant redwood trees. Wow! I never thought I would take so many pictures of trees, but they are massive. The drive to the National Park was about 30 minutes from Sausalito on a tour bus. It was very foggy this morning and we hoped it would burn off so we had visibility throughout the day. The road itself into Muir Woods was very windy and twisty with no guard ...

... on the way home, it was after 7pm by the time we got back to the apartment, and there were two messages to say they were hanging out in The Pub by Ghirardelli Square. The waitress in there had given them the wifi code for next door so they could try and contact us. Reunited again, we had a couple drinks then headed back for an early(ish) night. Julie and Sandy are off to Yosemite tomorrow, and have to be up for 5am...

... 8217;s weather is kicking San Fran’s **** right now. We passed 'John Daly Blvd’ on the way, quite surreal, it’s my Grandad’s name. The journey was okay but the guy next to me stank of fags, which wasn’t pleasant. About halfway through the journey we drove over the golden gate bridge, which was awesome, although really foggy. I had the Melodic on my headphones most of the journey. ‘On My Way’ is a great travelling song.
