    Moved from Ninilchik to Nikiski-Captain Cook S R A to get away from the crazies-locals and tourists all trying to get to the Kenai River to catch salmon any way the law will allow.Dip netting, flossing, snagging-dynamite is still illegal in Alaska.   The Swanson River and Bishop River in Captain Cook SRA were peaceful and full of trout the only draw back was there were reports of bear activity, so Sid found a buddy (campground host) with a shot gun. ...

    ... huge dip nets to catch salmon for about 3 weeks. Not at all sporting, it just puts food on the table. Then it was off to see Holy Assumption of the Virgin Mary Russian Orthodox Church. There are no pews because every one stands during the service. The church was built for $400 during the early 1800's. We went to the visitor center to be sure we saw all the important things in Kenai and we were getting hungry so what to our gazing eyes did appear ...

    ... of the Kenai River and the Cook Inlet. A great place to relax and explore while taking in the sea air. Summer Solstice was celebrated last night. From sunset to sunrise there is 19 hours and 21 minutes of sunlight. However when looking at first light to last light there is only 17 minutes of darkness. Thank goodness we have black out shades.

    The first few phone calls didn't pan out, (full or answering machine). Mike found a Fishing Charter business with good ratings and near us in Soldotna. Roger called them up and they said they'd find us something so we all got in the van and drove over to them.

    Alaska Fishing Charters is run by the same owner (and location) as Soldotna Bed & Breakfast, directly on the Kenai River. Despite us not ...
