Venturing up north..
... and taking a trip (or two..) to the nightlife of the towns Reggae bar. Travelling alone gives you the chance to do what you want, when you want, how want and as long as you want! Met some great fellow travellers (who I bumped in to again in Pai, and then again today in Bangkok so off to dinner and drinks with them tonight!) and made some great memories.

... escape from the southern humidity. Had dinner at the Chiang Mai Writers Club, what seemed like the popular hangout for aging western castaways and new expats. Last day in Chiang Mai and some more train rides
... ones working with jade. Our tour guide said there are about 18 shades of jade. We watched them cut it, carve it and polish it into various shapes. Very cool. I ended up buying a big jade happy buddha necklace. In the store there was any type of jewellery you could imagine. The sales lady kept trying to make me try on diamond rings (cause diamond is my birth stone) but they looked like engagement rings and it creeped me out haha.

Chiang Mai monk chat & elephant mahout training
... it is, it is impossible to see it except for when a tree is ripped out of the ground by its muscular trunk. The mahouts called them down and Kylie and I swapped positions. Sitting at the back is much easier as you don't have to try to control it. We took them down to the river where the elephants went in and we gave them a scrub down. It was so amazing to watch them rolling around in the water having the best time. They really enjoyed being scrubbed down too. The baby elephant was ...
Chiang Mai has come to greet us
... it looked really nice from outside. We are staying at the Sri Pat Guest House. We checked in and were told that our room may not be ready for another hour so we sat in the lobby and read and used the laptop to blog. Our room was ready in 30 minutes which was nice so we wandered up past the small pool and into our new haven. Our room was surrounded by trees and had a nice size balcony overlooking a garden.
