Sloggett Ushuaia

... Luckily this was false so we were able to go to Ushuaia, in the Tierre Del Fuego National Park, and the most Southerly city on earth, it would be rude not to.

It doesn´t get much further south than this without making the trek to Antarctica A little behind schedule, we finally crossed into Argentina on March 23rd. The bus from Puerto Natales to Ushuaia was our longest yet - 15 hours - and included a ferry ride and a border crossing. Actually two border crossings, as we had to check out of Chile, and 15 km later check into Argentina. Still not sure who owned the land ...

... over our hard borrowed cash and she kindly threw in the rental of all the down jackets, pants etc we needed and a night in her hotel next door (anyone reading this who may be going, go and see Daniella at Ushuaia Turismo - she´s lovely). We spent the next day....well, just getting SO SO excited, buying some more warm gear and enough camera memory cards and wine to sink the ship we were going to board. ... a joke. We passed through the metal detector, then were asked for our tickets and passports - because we were the first through - while everyone else was ignored. After walking along the wharf, we passed through another customs hut. One man left his bags outside the hut, didn't walk through the metal detector inside, then grabbed his bags without going through the screening. Very odd.



Found the Polar Pioneer, checked in, and found our staterooms ...

... on the hard boiled eggs, bread and snickers we had brought in. Plus the cold sandwich from the cafe. However, on the last day we managed to catch the BBQ and enjoyed a huge steak sandwich. Ushuaia is a nice place to spend a few days but quite expensive. Von Punta Arenas bin ich p** Autostopp nach Feu**land gefahren. Von d** Fähre nach Feu**land aus hat mich ein Lastwagenfahr** mitgenommen. D** Fahr** aus Buenos Aires gab mir seine Telefonnumm** damit ich ihn anrufen kann wenn ich in Buenos Aires bin und Hilfe für i**gend etwas brauche.
