... hard that we stopped and waited under an overhang over a bank, hoping that the rain would pass, but it didn't seem to be anywhere near stopping. It did, however, slow for a few minutes, which gave us enough motivation, combined with our desire to reach the guest house in time for the meeting, to forge on. We ended up riding around the edge of the old town for another thirty or so minutes before we reached a outdoor food market which blocked the sidewalk so we couldn't easily pass ...

I can see why we aren't allowed to do this sort of stuff in Britain because although the enclosures looked very safe, and the tigers were really tame i was still trapped in a tiger pen, with 2 fully grown female tigers and a fully grown male tiger.....and it was nearly their dinner time!!

... a waterfall on the way, Sinead realises she has forgot her bikini so the handy rather oversized sleeping bag/sarong has come in handy after all! My goodness how invigorating to stand under a waterfall albeit only for a couple seconds before you are pummelled into pool beneath, after much dunking and tom foolery we get back on the bus. It is probably fair to say that breaking in gently was not on the cards on day one with the steepest mountain inclines and no real paths, guides ...

... in picking his way on a foot wide path with no safety rail to keep us attached to the hill should the elephant have a miss-step. I am trying hard not to let this panic me. Victor is enjoying my fear and keeps telling me to take a picture of this and that when all I can do is hang on. As soon I gain confidence that we won't tumble off the hill, we reach the top. The views are beautiful with terraced fields of vegetables, homes in the distance....But also at the top ...

... by a cow who I had pi**ed off gave me great patience. and I just sat there. So did she. Thais contiued to pass on both sides, until she had made her point and sauntered off to a neighboring field.

It was my good fortune that there were no pictures.

... to fatigue from the long journey. There are 306 steps, bordered by a NAGA balustrade that leads up to the temple, which has beautifully decorated buildings and a Lanna style Chedi covered with engraved gold plate, flanked by 4 ornamental umbrellas.  The famous golden Chedi is 79 feet high and 39 feet across at its base.   At the Wat, we saw Stup Pagoda which is the famous golden Chedi that is 79 feet high and 39 feet across at the base, covered in engraved gold plate. 

... had styles that I liked better was closed today though. I did manage to find a nice ring and chain at a jewelery store though. At Ratana's I had Thai iced tea and steamed sea bass with garlic and lime and Bill had a coke and chicken stir fry. We headed to a pub-like place that we had seen yesterday to watch the F1 race. We were able to get a table up front and ordered some drinks. I decided to have a vodka and soda ...

... ride on the river....a lot of fun! We arrived at our hotel and then went out to dinner with our friend Patrick, we ate things right from the market stand... we try a lot of things here, it is nice , a lot of fruit ,vegetables and mostly a lot of eggs in everything we eat..... I never had so many eggs in 1 week....... We went out to a raggea bar last night and had a good time , we saw peoples from the trek.. Patrick was drunk , it was so funny!! We ate crickets, silk warms ...

... did SWP, even if our defence had nothing to do and thankfully nor did our keeper. Good result, we could have beaten them 8-0.

The bar we watched the game in was absolutely FULL of weirdos, Katie thought that we had unwittingly become 'nutter magnets'!
