Historical Traveler Reviews Sherwood Court Inn Eureka Springs
Sherwood Court offered the most welcoming, hospitable stay I've had in a very long time. Nick and Renate went above and beyond to ensure that all of the bikes and riders in our extensive group were well cared for. Towels on every bike each morning for cleaning dew and road grime from the previous day? Can't say that would happen anywhere else. Thank you, Nick and Renate, from the bottom of our hearts for making us feel so welcome and comfortable!
Sherwood Court is like a second home~
I have had the good fortune of staying at Sherwood Court three times so far. I have never stayed at a place where the Hosts are as considerate and friendly! The rooms are always impeccably clean; the continental breakfast is very good with the best coffee in Arkansas, I am sure. The grounds are beautiful, having won awards for Renate and Nicks efforts. Centrally located, you are close to the shopping district, wonderful restaurants and attractions.
I cannot say enough about this establishment or the owners, Nick and Renate. I would encourage anyone I know to stay with them. I can assure you that when you leave, you feel as if you have met family. They go the extra mile to make sure everyone is treated like royalty. You will not regret staying at Sherwood Court!
Eureka! I've found the best little inn in the Midwest!
I have a conference in Eureka Springs every April at the big Best Western across the road. Just by driving by I could tell the Sherwood was much more cozy and homey and opted for that lodging option a few years ago. Was I ever glad i did! Now, I not only stay at the Sherwood for the conference but i make it a point to come back several times a year. You just can't find a more charming community & Inn in the Midwest. The owners are always very nice and helpful. They work their butts off keeping this place a cut above any other lodging in the Eureka area. And if you know eureka, you know there's lots of options. Go with the Sherwood and you wont regret it. The garden-like landscaping alone makes for a special experience. Plus, theres a whole range of different room options from a basic-but-comfy room to a great historic cabin with a jacuzzi. The location is great also-close in but still woodsey with easy shuttle access right in front. I always bring a bike.... and take the road right across from the Sherwood down the canyon to the old city reservior for an outa the way interesting outdoor excursion. Highly recommended.
Our last visit to Sherwood Court was in December 2004. However, we are already booked for future visits. My family loves Sherwood Court because it is the ideal getaway, whether visiting the jacuzzi cottage for a romantic getaway or the Country Kitchen for a family weekend.
The proprietors, Renate and Richard, are always hospitable and helpful. They take exquisite care of the property, including a magnificent garden of floral delight each and every year. The atmosphere at Sherwood Court is always relaxing and inspiring.
We will continue to frequent Sherwood Court for its warmth and hospitality.
The best little Inn in Eureka
We have just returned from a great weekend at Eureka Springs and I know a big part of that experience was the hospitality showed to us by Nick and Renata, the proprietors of Sherwood Court. This is a fabulous Inn with wonderful landscaping complete with a babbling water feature. You felt relaxed and comfortable from the moment you stepped out of your vehicle.
The themed cabins are a must see & must stay! I would advise anyone going to Eureka Springs to stay at Sherwood Court and start your vacation off right!
Budget Cottage Getaway
All the comforts of home in your own private cottage! This is definitely Eureka Springs best kept secret for the budget traveler. Tucked away in the woods, yet walking distance to the Convention Center. Pristine clean. Friendly owners & guests. Margarita sunsets......Thanks Renate & Nick!!!!!

My husband and I, like every couple, wanted a wonderful wedding to celebrate the love we have for each other. Of course the decision as to where to have it is immense. We chose to have it at Sherwood Court in Eureka Springs and Nick (the owner) was kind enough to do our service.
I can't help it, I'm very picky, I always have been. I am the type, that since the flowers and cake had to be "perfect", I chose to do them myself (did them for a living for many years). I even made the dresses so everything would be exactly the way we wanted it.
Well, I could not have had it a better place. Not only did Renate (Nick's wife) show me the utmost patience and let me use her facilities when I was going crazy with the cake (nervous bride) she even found a cooperative bakery so we could get a couple of things I forgot. Nick went above and beyond the call of duty. He wasn't like some who just stood back and waited for the ceremony; he understood my feelings and made sure that everything was as perfect as we had planned. He worked so very hard for us by helping set up everything (a huge load brought in from Tulsa). He helped right down to setting up the flowers and making sure the tulle hung "just right". Renate made our reception one to always remember. It was on their personal patio (which it lovely) and she made everyone feel welcome and special.
We had the "Bride's Party" the night before at Sherwood Court and Renate not only let us use her home and grounds, but made her famous margaritas for us! I know that we asked for way above the call of duty and they are probably the most gracious people I have ever met.
When you first pull up to the Sherwood Court, you cannot help but notice the incredible plants and landscaping. It is breath taking how large and perfect Renate's flowers are.
We had our wedding behind the cabins in "the hollow" as Renate calls it. The trees were full of flowers and made a lovely backdrop for all the pictures during the wedding. The service was performed on a platformed gazebo that it hard to believe. If you are having a small wedding (20 or so) all the guests can be comfortably on it with you. The hollow is on a bit of a slope, so we chose to have our guests just above us on it and between the cabins is the perfect spot for older folks and the handicapped to sit so they do not have to worry about stairs. They felt like they were on a balcony. Everyone was able to see everything perfectly.
There are two sets of stairs going to the gazebo. We used one for the groom and best man and the other for the bride and bridesmaids. What was wonderful about this was, the groom could not see the bride and the staircase is off to the side a little so the bride and her party can primp and be nervous right before the ceremony and no one sees it. The stairs are not steep, so heels and long trains were not a problem.
We had a Scottish wedding that included bagpipe music (which is pretty loud); hearing the music play in the hollow was enchanting. The trees and the shape of the land made it seem as though we were the only people on earth.
Nick's rendition of the "Rose Ceremony", that we chose, was wonderful. He put us so at ease and was wonderful (even when I completely forgot what I was supposed to say!). Nick even figured out how were could incorporate the roses we exchanged into the decorations so that no one even realized the roses were to be exchanged until he gently handed us each one.
It was so perfect that at least one couple renewed their vows that day and others made plans to do so.
We took a trip to Kansas City later in August just to get away. We did what we wanted to do and we were going to go home a day early, but the car found its way to the Sherwood Court. The grounds were more incredible than they were in April. Not only are the rooms very nice, but there is a feeling that I can't describe when you are there. You feel more than just welcome, you feel like a very special friend.
There are times when everything seems like it is closing in on you. Everyone knows what I mean, the job, the house, the family, the traffic, running to and fro, etc. I sit back and long to go back to see Nick and Renate and feel the peace that Sherwood Court holds. I think I need to close, because I need to call and make a reservation!
Highlight of our Motorcycle Trip to the Ozarks
We discovered Sherwood Court last October touring with our bike and it was a most wonderful experience.
The Courtyard Cottage we stayed in was delightful. The huge picture window had a great view front and back
and you felt like you were in the country side even though this darling little place is in the middle of town.
We had never been to Eureka Springs, had no reservations and we didn't know where to stay when we arrived in town.
The amazing flower gardens and the "German Clean" sign made us pull into Sherwood Court. You cannot
help but stop at this place it is so inviting looking. The cottage inside did not disappoint by what it promised on the outside.
It was impeccably clean and there was a lot of attention paid to detail.
Every need was addressed, even a sewing kit in the little amenity basket in the bathroom.
The owners were extremely friendly and helpful and they even put rags on our bike every morning
to wipe off the dew and the owner furnished us with bike touring maps of the surrounding area.
We had no idea this was such beautiful motorcycle riding country. We stayed two extra days in
Eureka Springs because of it's beauty and because of the way we were treated by these incredible innkeepers.
Sherwood Court is a delightful place, extremely good value for the price.
Don't miss it when looking for a place to stay in Eureka Springs.
Absolutely magnificent!~Sherwood Court
We just returned from our trip to ES, we stayed at the lovely Sherwood Court. The Hosts Nick & Renate were very attentive and gracious hosts-you leave feeling like family. The rooms were beautiful and spacious. Our room was in the Lodge section and it had 2 comfy queen size beds, it was perfect for our group.
I had the opportunity to view the cottages at Sherwood Court, each one is unique and beautifully decorated. With ammenities: cable tv,jacuzzi's(in some cottages-one is a heart shaped),microwaves, small refrigerators, I can't wait to come back and stay in one of the cottages. The attention to detail is noticed everywhere you turn and the rooms were impecably clean!
Sherwood Court also has BEAUTIFUL grounds complete with a gazebo~a PERFECT setting for a wedding.
Nick and Renate are very knowledgeable about Eureka Springs and can give you some history on the town, point you in the direction of some of the best places to dine and shop or perform your wedding. We were very impressed! Coffee, juice, hot tea and pastries were avaliable every morning of our stay.
I will be reccomending Sherwood Court to my family and friends and I just can't wait to return, because it was Absolutely magnificent!
Sherwood Court is one of the best, if not the best, lodgings in Eureka Springs. We have stayed in several of their cottages and have loved them all. For that special honeymoon or anniversary stay try the Log Cabin cottage or the Victorian Romance cottage. Both have two person jacuzzi's. Although the other cottages don't have jacuzzi's they are also very nice. There are also several motel room units available. There are prices to fit everyone's budget.
Nick and Renate Nickelson are the most wonderful owners in town. Once you have stayed with Nick and Renate you feel like part of an extended family. And the grounds are just absolutely beautiful once all of Renate's flowers and plants bloom out.
There is a trolley stop right at the entrance and golf and pool privileges can be provided at Holiday Island resort, a short distance away. They will be more than happy to assist you with dining recommendations and reservations.
Give them a try and you won't stay anywhere else (we don't).

... the 7-mile ride to Onyx Cave. The motorcycle ride down the hill to the cave was awesome, really steep, narrow and twisty. I was looking forward to the ride back up. The cave itself was nice. It looked like a little one man operation, with headsets and self-guided stations explaining the cave. Since it was early, Jody and I had the cave to ourselves and thoroughly enjoyed taking our time going through.

... yes. The Rowdy Beaver? It's the name of a local restaurant. It's known for its steaks, so, of course we had the pulled pork and it was delicious. The restaurant also had a little gift store where they sold all the possible bad beaver joke t-shirts you could imagine. We passed up this time. Tomorrow we further explore Eureka Springs.
