... eens te observeren wat deze mensen daar dan eigenlijk de hele dag doen: brood bakken, koeien melken, room van de melk maken, schapen vellen drogen,... Ze zijn steeds druk in de weer, van zonsopgang tot zonsondergang. Dan zit de dag erop en gaan ze, net zoals wij, slapen want er is geen electriciteit. Je leeft dus meer op het ritme van de zon, back to nature all the way!

Na 5 dagen kwamen we redelijk verwilderd maar voldaan terug en waren we blij met onze eerste douche ...

Der 20. Jahrestag der kasachischen Unabhängigkeit (und der Unabhängigkeit aller anderen ehemaligen Sowjetstaaten) rückt näher. Grund genug in Vorbereitung der Feierlichkeiten Almaty schon mal mit Plakaten des Präsidenten zu tapezieren. Nicht, dass die Stadt und das ganze Land nicht schon vorher tapeziert waren, aber jetzt wurden endlich mal neue Plakate aufgehängt. Ist ja auch nicht ganz so glaubwürdig, wenn ...

... paying 200 and when an official came out the money disappeared. But our suspicions were way laid at the next bus station when we had to pay at the ticket booth for our bags.
It was a long, bumpy , as the road was replaced by a concrete looking strip through the steppe, uneventful trip. I watched the green turn to desert scrub and back to green, as Almaty is in the foothills of the Central Tian Shan Mountains and receives a daily torrent this time of year.

... at me curiously, not even the children. It's like I was invisible!

Almaty is a well-organized and clean city. The traffic is very light and very orderly. People rarely honk their horns or do anything scary, unpredictable or obnoxious. It's easy to navigate with a map; the streets are well marked and the sidewalks are not crowded at all.

The dairy products here are amazing. OMG, these people love cheese and thus, I love them. ...
