Unterwegs Richtung Fredericton

Link for my hiking progress

Here is the link to see progress as I go. It may take a little bit of
time for new points to be established, but hopefully it should work. :-)

Second Movement

... morning. Still shocked at the cheap prices for food and drinks outside of the big city(s). Dooz just had his second movement - so we are thrilled. He slept like a log last night and caught up today on his naps. Thanks to not being allowed in the park... well he would have been if we just took him. The main gates were open and no rangers. Plus we met a few dogs on the trail. The owners told ...

We made it...

We are all alive... 1494.1 miles. Dooz has found creative ways to find comfort in back of the jeep. I will load some photos once I find that darn adaptor. Our last update was from Kennebunkport MA. Yep was saw the summer home of the Bush family. I must admit it was rather nice. We went to a small restaurant where my dad would have flatlined. It was nothing special - more like a small shack - we had 2 appetizers split a lobster roll ...

On the road again

... quiet, even in the larger built up areas. The road was dry and the weather kind, however we did find that poor old Toad and the bottom half of Bree were well salted by the end. When we reached Doug & Trish's in Effingham, there was still a good deal of the 5 or so feet of snow they have had this winter, lying around. It was still rock solid because of the low overnight temperatures, however it has been raining most of the day, so ...

DAY 4: Summitted a Mountain

... to hold onto. At those points we had to trust in the grips on our boots and basically shredded our fingertips to pieces. Oh the PAIN! When we got to what we thought was the top, we realized we were not even three miles up. We stopped at the "table" and had a liesurely lunch and I think we were all secretly contemplating not going any further. We watched as people continued straight up the boulders, we watched them ...

Indian Land

... Dancing Loons". As we approach our secluded island campsite in the middle of 3rd Machias Lake we are embraced by a profound sense of calm and we understand the Penobscot Indian meaning of Machias, "God Resting". We will continue to see the Perseids meteor shower throughout our week of wilderness camping. The blacker-than-black deep darkness of a moonless night sky at 3rd Machias Lake will be sliced by ...

Mt. Katahdin (I Took A Walk to Zipperhead)

... telling those guys that it was irresponsible for someone so out of shape as I was to be out on a mountain like this. I really felt like was going to cry. We had been eating all day, to keep our energy up. Andrew gave me one of his chocolate chip cookie bars, and even though it made me feel like barfing at first, it helped me get my fourth or fifth wind. The next section was slow and painful. All of us got blisters quickly from slamming our feet in our shoes. Eventually the ...

At Wick's End

... the crash memorial for SwissAir nearby. The coastal drive is really nice but repetitive and instead of driving to Yarmouth (seriuosly) I drove north to New Brunswick because the ferry was goig to be over 100.00$ I stopped in Wentworth, NS a quite little town with scattered houses, hostel and caves, hikes , climbing etc. But then I carried on the main Trans Canada, not much to see because of all the trees but quick. I don't ...

Close call with rain and a rising river

... edge of the incline which was an absolute dropoff. Now I knew if I didn't get out soon I wouldn't be able to and I had no idea how much the river would rise being only about 6 inchs below the bank. So the next time I knew I didn't worry about any of the gear getting out of place revved it up and didn't slow down at he depression and sliding back and forth close to each side I climbed up and was able to get the fornt wheels ...
