Station Road London, England, United Kingdom
Before I left me and Rosie had lunch with Mum and Dad at Wagamamas in London. After that it all got a bit real and felt pretty nervous. Took the tube to Heathrow at about 5. Left Rosie after a quick bite to eat at the airport. Probably the low point of the trip but it can only get better! Next stop UAE.
London, England, United Kingdom jason_oz... He was a 20 year old engineering student from New Zealand and we decided to go to the bar and try the quiz there. The quiz was 4 rounds long for 10 questions a piece and lets just say we kicked-ass! There were only 6 teams but we won. The prizes were **** but I wasn't in it for the reward. Just for the fun.
I woke up early and headed out. Since this is London I wanted to go check out the world-famous Changing of the Guard Ceremony they have in the morning. In ...
... but I must say I was feeling rather withered after an all day walking tour of many of the sites around town including the Tower of London (which had a fantastic new exhibit on Henry the 8th), Tower Bridge, Tate Modern, and the London Eye.
After checking into our hotel later that night (our room was unavailable when we first got there in the morning) we headed out to a little hole in the wall restaurant our travel book said had the best ...
In May of 2009, it was off to visit London. We arrived at the airport and decided to take the tube to our hotel. Since everything was in English, for a change, this wasn't too difficult of a task. Our hotel was centrally located and within walking distance of Buckingham Palace. We did a lot of walking, checking out the sites.
We saw all the high-lites, including Big Ben, The London Eye and ...
... the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben before strolling along Victoria Embankment and getting more images of the Eye from across the Thames - with monopod fully extended! Arriving at Embankment underground station, I was about to hop on a train to Covent Garden when I spotted a sign for Charing Cross station - an actual station sign, not a signpost showing me the way. From Charing Cross, I ...
London, United Kingdom weirdism... in Spain. From the air, Spain looked very different from what I expected. There are these amazing mountains covered with sandy scrub and green trees, and el Plano (where Madrid is) looks more like a desert b/c the soil is so sandy. I knew I was getting close to Madrid when i finally saw 3 skyscrapers jutting up from the plain, and I was excited to even see some palm trees when i landed! More about Spain in my next entry--Lov u all!! ~Lisa
London, United Kingdom lmedear2... club. I was appalled, Sofia was delighted, but the place was a bust and we left after seeing Indian guys dance with each other with some gusto. The good news is that we are now used to the Tube system in London and Sofia is getting good at knowing where to go. That is not to say that she won't end up in Spain one day while getting to and from Cambridge. We just got back to the hotel and I am about to crash.
London, United Kingdom flaljee... pick-up station so I dozed off for a nice sleep while we had some carriages removed. Fulda was our next stop, 4 hours later and I woke up here. I was almost back to sleep when I thought we had been sitting in the station for quite a while. From platform displays I saw out the window I noted that other sleeper trains from the north we running 40 minutes late. A check of the DB website on my phone revealed that my train was hooking up with another and that we were both expected to ...
London, United Kingdom v1213... of London for a while. Why they are buried together I don't know. We also got to see this chapel where all the knights gather. It was amazing. I wish they let you take pictures. The detail that they put into these buildings is insane. The celling had all these carved details. There were other people buried in the church, not only royals. They have the actual coronation chair that kings and queens have sat in since 1308. In the museum you got to see fragments of ...
London, United Kingdom copperboom... guards and the accompanying daily quota of tourists from around the globe! It was a short stroll through Green Park, down to the Thames. The path curved by a small lake filled with ducks, pelicans and other water birds. A small animal darted out from a bed of foxgloves, dashed acros the grass and sprang up into a tree - A squirrel! Then many more! The path emerged near the horse guard house (accordingly a mounted guard stands on display), crosses ...
