Rosengarten Hotel is a Safe Bet ! Great Food
Located on the outskirts of Dobbiaco, the family Rosengarten Hotel run by Alexander is a wonderful place to spend a few days.... we spent 14 days and were sorry to be leaving. It was my tenth year coming here and still there are many hikes I/we have yet to do.
This hotel is most reasonably priced and offer the best food to be had anywhere …
The mighty Dolomite Passes
... motorway so no ways am I going that way.
As I get closer to the main pass road the temp has fallen to -4 Celsius and I’m beginning to worry. However all seems great up ahead as it would appear that the gritters and snow ploughs have not long been over the pass as the amount of grit on the road is unbelievable.
The road is wonderful. Other than small sections of ice here and there I have no problems at all.

Onwards to find the Dolomites
... that my plans of heading via the mountains to Bolzano was going to be impossible as all the passes were closed!!! I looked at the map then the satnav for ways round but just could not work out where the hell I was. The signs on the road simply said "Pass Closed" and underneath said "Use alternative route"!!! I wonder what route we were supposed to take???
With the satnav sending me round in circles I simply got on a road heading East and followed that for mile after mile ...
Return to Forni di Sopra
... dipped behind the mountains, and the delightful barbecue came to an end. We cleaned up and retired to the house. That evening, we were all too stuffed for dinner, so we skipped it and went straight to dessert. We returned to Gardenia, our third visit in the last five days. I was feeling a bit more adventurous tonight and strayed from my usual affogatto. I also wanted something more filling since this was essentially dinner. So I had spaghetti! No, not the kind ...
