Time to play the tourist - without the clichés!!

... for an earthy, hardcore travel experience look no further... no pictures though as I value my camera! I love the city centre. The coolest, most cosmopolitan, most exciting and even on a wet Wednesday in February the bars and cafés are buzzing, that all important hyggelige (cosy) atmosphere - a uniquely Danish sense of wellbeing and conviviality. I have woken up to how truly great this historic city of canals, cobbled squares and copper spires is and ...

The learning curve isn't over yet...

... Can't learn Swedish until my real personnummeret gets here. Had to email personnummeret lady and tell her about my foolish mistake of thinking my PIN number was my personnummeret number 'cause I don't know Swedish. Didn't make it to class 'cause I didn't look under "Lecture Plan" for schedule changes. However, despite all this, I am not in a bad mood at all today. Why? 1) It was really pretty and sunny and fall like outside all day while I was ...

The Park.

So, today I met with all of the professors in my department for the first time, as well as all five incoming grad students. You know, I don't know... but I think that class size is a little too big for my tastes - I don't think we'll get enough one on one time with the teachers like this...I'm kind of worried. Anyway, as has become my tradition, I attempted to walk back home from the economics department once ...

family dinner

So, I think I will give this travel blog thing a try for all my friends who want to hear about what I've been doing, but don't necessarily want to bug with incessant emails all the time. I have been in Lund since Monday and am slowly adjusting to the time difference, which is nine hours ahead of pacific standard and six ahead of eastern...but six or nine hours doesn't make much difference, I still end up falling ...

Fourth of July in Sweden!!

... up to badly. Also having some really nice cheese helped as well. The rest I left up to Staffan to complete the grilling...as it is his forte. Per, Emil & Viking came over to partake in our American feasts and drink my American beer. It was a nice day and we were able to sit outside on the deck. Unfortunately Staffan didn't find the cornbread...so I am really curious now to where we found this and will make sure to buy multiple boxes the next time I ...

... class rooms at the college. We walked the grounds and saw this huge 300 year old tree that had fallen during a storm. Instead of chopping it up they built a bridge over it so you can walk over the remains. Parts of the tree had been cut to use dendrochronology to recall the weather and history of the area.

Never know who you will meet on the E20 highway

... of Sweden 15 mins outside of Malmö. No heat, no running water, and it was perfect! They showed us around the city of Malmö and and introduced us to a lot of traditional Swedish foods. We took Jannice's dogs for a walk yesterday and ate a home cooked meal at Marie's parents house last night that was so good. Today we will start our drive to Amsterdam, but it is a 10 hour drive so we will do half ...

Who knew anywhere could rain as much as the NW

... how tame life abroad can be. No, it's not a 24/7 party with tall blonde girls groping me irresistibly battling for my attention...usually though. To continue recounting my week I will move on to Friday night. Considering some Swedes had there tests on Sat. it was still low key in my corridor... but that didn't stop the party animal that I am. It being another night of rain Laura and I decided we didn't want to go all the way to Delphi to pre-party ...

1/3 of a maccas chicken burger with Sir Toby

Hit the town to complete our festival shopping. Shopping list: shade, sack truck, tarp, tent pegs, strapping, pocket knife, radio for ipod and gumboots for potential wet weather. After a dodgy flea market and some even dogier kebabs we found a big hardware store which solved most of our needs and left only the radio and gumboots which Toby said we should be able to get there no problems. Since we were so close we ...

A weeks worth of sights in one day!

... he was standing. The incredible thing was that once he stood up once, he get up almost immediately with no troubles. The first few steps were hard, and he fell over a few times, but was right back up, and fighting to get to his mom for food. She was right beside him for support, but did not have the strength to feed him. It was at this time that we left them, with the owner lying on the grass watching the new mom licking her baby clean, and the baby trying to get some food.
