Another reluctant departure from Opatja but one must move on. The weather forecast was for "possible rain showers" What's new? Back on the motorways for some serious riding. ... station in France, we then headed to the Buffet Carriage to take in the views. They've got windows in the upper part of the carriage here, so you can get yourself a beverage and take in the scenery. It's still impressive but the only downside that the weather wasnt so great and so we didnt see it's full majesty as clouds were covering some of the largest mountains.

Barbara was excited to finally be in Italy. But she never dreamed she would walk to Italy! The downhill to Refugio Elisabetta was pretty easy and through yet another gorgeous valley. We arrived mid-afternoon. The name of the place made me think of my mother a bit. Wish she was here.

We have been in remote country for the last few days. Haven't seen a store, and rarely even a house since we left Les Contamines.

Our last refuge in France was de Mottets, quite a relief after the night before. Although it had been converted from a dairy farm, it had spacious, modern rest rooms, hot showers, semi-private bed room (Barbara only had to share with 3 guys this time).
