Woke up with high hopes of an early ride today looked out the window and could not believe how far down the mountain the cloud had rolled. Climbing big Cols was out of the question.
We took an early morning trip St Jean de Maurienne to stock up on supplies and have a coffee and croissant. The weather started getting worse so it was time for bread, cheese, salami and wine.

Today the plan was to ride three or four cols, well that was the plan, the weather had other ideas.
I set off at 5.30am with just a light drizzle and if you have seen today's stage of the TDF you would know it became progressively worse.
I made it to Thones climbing the Col De Bluffy however by then I was soaked through. My rain booties and gloves had given up and became water capsules, I couldn't warm up and still had to climb over 1400 metres.

Today was a rest day and we slept in until 10am. I actually felt pretty good after all that riding and only had some sore muscles here and there. After dragging our butts out of bed, we wandered around town to find a cafe to get a coffee and a bite to eat but came out empty handed. Perhaps it was because it was Sunday, but there just didn't seem to be a cafe anywhere. It just seemed so anti-European. We found a patisserie and got some bread and ...
... today (5 July) commencing from Valloire, we are due to leave also so a little worried about holding the racers up in our van on the mountain roads!!
We (Tom) had chosen it for its bike park and spent 2 days what was on offer, although the rides were relatively short (10 miles each), they climbed around 4500ft and obviously descended around the same :)
It chilled off in the mountains and we had to get our jumpers out!!!
