    ... with bright oranges, yellows and reds! The road runs along the crest and there are plenty of pull-outs that probably provide great views, but low clouds kept us from seeing much. Wildlife we saw: turtles and otters in Otter Lake, deer, and a snake named Carl. (Snake's name courtesy of Forest Ranger.)

    ... excellent continental breakfast, I hiked a mile and a half over to the road to Troutville, VA, a small town that offers free camping in the town park and free showers and laundry at the fire station across the street. I set up my tent and seam sealed it, which involved basically painting a silicon solution over the seams to fully waterproof them. In the automated production, a "billet" or rough piece of timber is placed into a feeder. there are metal molds that shape, and trim the billet into a bat for a particular model.
