Heading East, deeper into Bhutan

... inside. There we found some interesting potato chips that were labelled as "green" flavour - surely a winner, and some cheese puffs. Upom determing that these would go good with beer, we scooped up an armful and made out way back to the relative luxury of the hotel to enjoy our nightcap. Tomorrow would be another long journey by car, further and deeper into central Bhutan, further and further away from any sense of western influence.

Thimpu & the coronation ceremonies, part 2

... of bodies pressed up against an iron gate, about sixty to eighty people deep. It was truly a mad crush of people, and we were in the thick of it....a couple of tall, white tourists anongst hundreds of locals. I think the locals found our local garb a little amusing, but in a complimentary way. More than one lent an effort to straightening my scarf (which I was required to wear for this event), of puffing up the bustle in the back ...

Final Day - Druk Path / Thimphu, Capital City

... with several centimetres. The air was foggy and it was strangely warm. The morning wash water was served up as usual, along with hot coffee, though the wash-up was a pretty quick affair in the snow. Breakfast ws amazing as usual, and before we started off for the last leg of our trek to the capital city, Thumphu, we arranged our tips for the support crew, including the head cook, his assistant, the 2 horsemen and the helper (who ...

Bhutan Day 5

... some clothes donated by the Royal family, which made us interested slightly more. And like all good museums, we ended up at the shop !!! Trashi Chhoe Dzong The Mother of all Dzongs, and as this one is used for Government business, we could not enter until after 17:00. We walked into the temple, but after this mornings effort, it was a bit of a let down. Out in the courtyard, we tried to go everywhere, but the police ...

Bhutan Day 4

... style lunch, before we moved on up to the Pele La pass. It wasn't as good as the last one, so we left after the standard photo shoots. Back down the mountain we went, back towards our hotel, but I don't remember much as once again, I slept !!! And Finally Not as much to see today, but it was still good. No matter how long I have been here, I never grow tired of the mountains. They are mesmerising, and maybe this is why I sleep so much !!!

The Mighty Phallus...

... the c**emony was done, the throng loosened and I tried to conv**se with some of the villag**s, including a rotund man with teeth stained red from betel nut, and slightly glazed eyes but it was at this point that he grabbed the f**tility totem carved into the end of a long, decorated pole and struck me twice on the forehead with it before low**ing his aim. I regretted having missed the earli** part of the c**emony ...
