A 27K walk from Managua to Masaya...

... my house to drop things off and ask my host mom if anything was happening. I had originally thought that after Ortega´s second speech there would be some big party in the same area, but most people were simply returning to Managua or their respective cities. After a little debate and a phonecall I decided to just call it a night and take a shower, since I hadn`t had a chance to do that in two days. All in all, I`m really glad I went. The day turned out to be a lot more than I thought...

Travel Into Hope

... was something, to this day I have never found its equal. With two thousand colones, which is the equivalent of two dollars, I paid for my notebook and hid it away so no one else would have the same one. You never know what you’ll find if you actually search through the rubble.

Day eight quickly approached and brought us to our next destination, Tortuguero. This place, a sanctuary to green sea turtles and other species was one of interest. Our hotel rooms ...

Nicaragua, SEMANA SANTA!

... to that I can just think about how hard it must have been for the others at the table, not starting to laugh out loud... After trotting to Zopilote we stayed with our German friends in the kitchen and in their room.. and took a few hours of sleep before we took the bus to the fairy. This definately was a special week! We´ll never forget the people we meet, the kindness we experienced and the great nature we got in touch with! Nicaragua- what a country!!!

... drinks and cookies, we felt that it was money well spent! We didn't have a lot of time in Nicaragua, so we kept the trip simple. We spent 2 nights in Grenada, a beautiful colonial town on the north end of Lake Nicaragua. Now almost 2 months into our trip, we are getting brave about eating street food, and decided to try the typical local plate called vigoron, consisting of yucca (like mashed potatoes), cabbage and pork ...

... cyclist, some kids on ponies and long lines of pelicans playing follow the leader. The next day a couple of coach parties turned up but they went to the other end of the beach. There´s a shocking pink and yellow seaside villa which I covet. Shame there are no shops and all the restaurants only have fish and shellfish. I tried the meat and ended up giving it to a dog it was so chewy. Gorgeous beach though.

... the bronze statue of Simon Bolivar', then walk to 'El Parque Juan Pablo II'. But what attracted us most of all is 'La Catedral Vieja', we find there is something romantic about this old cathedral and we believe that it's the most beautiful church of Managua. Recent tremors have closed this old church, so unfortunately we couldn't visit the interior.
