... order of 5 times the cost of the entry. This would appear to be a way of getting additional $ from tourist.
As we are leaving, a festival is just starting up. I overheard something about bringing sheep to market as the impetus. There are lots of booths selling cheese, meats and grilled items, and of course lots of beer and local alcohol. I view this as a great way to try some homemade stuff. I buy a smoky cheese that reminds me of Guda, another sharp cheese that might relate to ...
... br>We continue our journey through the Transylvanian hills / mountains and see a green arena, full of pine trees and agricultural areas. The living standard of the people is around the same as in middle Europe in the 50th.
We are lucky and find our hotel without problems, and even without having the possibility to speak to the people we enjoy a good dinner and a good night
Sibiu is a delightful city, small - about 250 000 people, but ready to make your staying one of the best in Romania.
The city, on its German name Hermannstadt, was founded in the 12 century and in 2007 was Cultural European Capital.
The Bruckenthal Palace in the Big Plaza, today an art museum and the Evangelic Cathedral are worth a 2-3 hour visit.
Also, climbing all the way up in the Council Tower , the 12 century gate of SIbiu, let us see the city from above.
Great place!
... had either meatball or bean. Follow that with very tender pork in a light paprika sauce. At the end, I have as much as I want of whatever pastry is available, the most notable one being a sort of pound cake with a layer of apple, whipped cream, and berries on top. I ate nearly a meal's worth of just the dessert at the last family-style meal. The local liquor is palinka, which honestly is like most anyone's local liquor to ...
Sibiu, Transylvania, Romania sarakmills... mills, homesteads and every other building you could imagine. You couldn't walk in the rooms, but you could peer inside where they had it decorated with old beds, tables, clothes and linens. The place was pretty empty and it was nice strolling the grounds to myself. The weather still is crazy hot and I kept ducking into the shade for a little bit here and there to cool down. After around 3 hours I still never saw everything, but I think I ...
Sibiu, Transylvania, Romania kateb75... new opportunities...not just saavy outsiders. Sibiu is quite an interesting city and has been named on of the European Capital of Culture for 2007...you can read more about the place here: http://www.sibiu.ro/index_en.php Wandered around and saw some cathedrals, historic buildings, found the Internet and then back to the hotel for some cards and drinks with my tour mates before heading to bed....
Sibiu, Romania tracystravels... we were on the road, and..... a half a bag of stick pretzels, a bag of Hershey's kisses, an orange, fig newtons, two bags of cheesy Doritos, a hot dog, two Shopska salads, black tea, a bottle of water, Tutki cookies, pistacho nuts, walnuts, and a bottle of Jack Daniels later *just kidding* ..... we were on our way. Now in Sibiu, the architecture is amazing, the people are peaceful, and there is a Jazz festival we are missing as I type!!Hope everyone is amazing, love to you all!!!! -Katie
Sibiu, Transylvania, Romania keit3... turned out to be German, so they had no qualms about letting a stranger sit with them (the fact that I was female and dolled up probably didn't hurt either). Okay, so I tend to knock the Germans a lot, but I do have to give them credit for their openness to sharing a table or a drink with complete strangers. They turned out to be very interesting guys on a 3-week motorcycle trip through Romania, one of them having lived in Michigan for 3 years. It was only after an ...
Sibiu, Romania calivoodoo... relentless and our odor only served to attract more and more as we walked. Bug spray, at that moment, would have been a nice addition. Alas, I did not see a CVS around any of the bends, and I had left my CVS card back in Washington, DC. Otherwise, with the warm sun bathing us in light, and the mountains growing around us in the crop-filled valley, the stroll to Dupus was uneventful. Dupus itself was another story. The village was from another time. It was small, to be sure, with a ...

I wanted to make her feel good, as I didn't know what we would have done without her intervention. She quickly blushed. Incidentally, she only had about 4 teeth, all of which seemed to hang precariously out of her smiling mouth. As we approached the edge of town she gave us some final instructions. "Go up ahead and take a left. Then once you get to the fork ...
