    Day 87 - 22/05/05
    Salzburg to Vienna
What a difference an Autobahn makes to a 300km trip. After another brekky of cold cuts, bread rolls and kaffee we headed off just after 10am. Straight onto the A10 and around the outside of Salzburg we were then quickly on our way to Vienna. Apart from some road works that had us slowing down to 80km ( …

I think one of the reasons I enjoyed the natural history museum so much is that I had no idea how awesome it would be. It turns out it's one of the best in the world. Plus, I'd only ever been to two others and it had been a while. I've been to the one in Chicago, but that was so ...

This morning we visited the beautiful Schonbrunn Palace (Schloss Schonbrun) the Summer residence of the Habsberg monarchs who ruled much of Europe for over 600 years. This is supposedly one of the best known palaces in all Europe. We took a horse drawn carriage around the Palace gardens which has its own zoo, a palm garden, a separate building to accommodate official guests. It was probably the best way to see it with limited time. Two beautiful white horses and ...

But we are not perfect, as I am reminded by an excruciating walk home. I’ve worn my posh shoes for a posh dinner, but they lack the support of the boots and trainers I’ve been wearing for the rest of the trip and my heavily-bandaged toe feels like I’ve dropped a piano on it. Who knew yoga could be so bad for your health. Thankfully a final glass of merlot before bed dulls the pain and allows me to drift into slumbers of imperial fantasy.
