Not the best area but a great little hotel for a stop over between port and airport, £18 a night with breakfast. good choice of food. can get anywhere easily.

Had the day to myself and decided to explore CDO on foot. The slow pace of a pedestrian allows you to see the details of daily life. I started at the Cogon central market. Virtually every transit route in the city passes through the market as most people will make a daily stop here to shop. All that traffic produces chaos and a reek of diesel but it also pulses with life. In some sense it is like a superstore and mall as you can purchase anything ...

High seas prevented any thoughts of diving today so our Plan B was white water rafting on the Cagayan River. When this river flooded in 2011 it killed 14,000 and left low lying areas devastated - it's quite a river. We were picked up downtown in a Jeepney by our guides from Bugsay rafting. Bugsay is Cebuano for paddle. An hour of sucking diesel fumes and we launched high above the city of Cayagan de Oro. Our three hour drift took us ...

Lots more fish than I can identify (yet) but the star attraction are Giant Clams (.75m) Much more traffic on the return trip in pouring rain. Heavily populated and lots of informal habitations and ...

... school bouncing with energy. Nathan enjoyed another game of competitive basketball, using his height to full advantage while Rachel prepared for a girlie birthday tea party. All the girls from house of Joshua were invited to Mary's daughters tea party. Arriving by shuttle, we entered the party that was in full swing. It was quite a house full, some neighbours had also been invited and ...

Now I wanted to look for some food as I hadnt eaten since my overpriced breakfast at the last hotel. In the night market I found a halal fried ...
