... built in the 1st or 2nd Century and held 20,000. It was used for chariot races and gladiator fights and is still in use today during the bullfighting season. Very cool! Forgot to take a photo unfortunately.

Up early to make use of free Wifi - that is Kim watched the sunrise while sitting outside a closed café and scabbing their Wifi! We then we hightailed it out of Arles and towards Spain.
... than the amphitheater, it was a semi-circular shape and only seated 10 000. Not much remains but 2 columns, 6 bits of columns, and piles and piles of rubble with fantastic carvings on them. It’s amazing to think of a nation who worked so ***********quer other lands. And not just conquer, but build amazing structures, theaters, coliseums, walls, and aqua-ducts. And other ...
Arles, Provence, France 2totango... to wander around this town ad see the exact places that are pictured in famous works. It’s amazing how much closer you can feel to a person just knowing you’ve been to the same places. But of course, 120 years later things have changed. Buildings are gone, skylines have changed, and 20th century influence is everywhere! Not quite as romantic ...
Arles, Provence, France 2totangoCurse the Mistral - it has been blowing for 3 days non stop and it is gale force and freezing cold. It appears to have abated slightly this afternoon and our local guide informed us that it stops after either 3 days, 6 days or 9 days so we are hopeful. Last night it ws like sleeping under a jet ready for take off all night. Poor Big Mama got rocked around and it takes a lot to move her. A big ...
Avignon, Provence, France falkewind... full of flavour. For the second course I had a seafood dish and Alison had a beef stew on mashed potatoes (looked very simple but Alison said it tasted "Divine!"). My seafood dish had a variety of shellfish in their shells, and other seafood, and was delicious. Our desserts were a mousse made with raspberries, and soft meringues floating in thin custard (the descriptions do not do these dishes any justice at all).
The cost had ...
... in 35 degree heat. After showering (/ diving in the river despite being told not to - rebels!) we were taken into town and given a little walking tour by Bridget. Saw the beautiful Palace of the Popes (very different from when I was last there and it was covered in snow!) and came across a cute little merry-go-round and... Well that was about it. So then we went off to try and find frogs legs for dinner (part of the points game) but could only get ...
Avignon, Provence, France t_lee... until they left in 1700 to make their way to America. The house is still standing and in good condition. The house has a plaque with my ancestor's name- Jean Pierre (Peter) Bondurant (I believe 7 great grandfathers back). Anyway, it was very cool to see the house and walk the streets of the village. From there we headed to Florac which is a good size village in the center of the national park. There are an amazing set of enormous sheer cliffs ...
Genolhac, Languedoc-Roussillon, France johnandrichThis post is a 'post-visit' entry since we didn't have internet access at Le Ferme, that's "the farm" fer you non France speak'n folk. The hotel was nice, very quiet with great meals. We used this as a home base for 3 nights as we visited many of the outer cities. These include, but aren't limited to Roussillon, Gorde and Abbaye de Senanque. We also took a tour of some regional ...
