... because one of the ex-presidents passed away, so the whole country was in "mouring". AKA "we don't have to work tomorrow so let's drink!" We didn't do much in the way of mourning, but we did do some serious relaxing.

Friday we volunteered at the orphanage, per usual, and had class in the afternoon. Then we hopped on a bus bound for David and my mom! We picked her up, bags and all, and were in Boquete around 6:30. Of course I was excited to see ...

Yesterday morning we met Bob and Pat again and went down to Triskar, but this time we had 5 more volunteers with us. Christy and Shea, two of the volunteers, brought along a huge bag full of different types of crafts and games for the kids, which made our time yesterday extra fun! They were so stimulated by all of the activities and it was evident that they loved all the attention ...

... jungle noises coming to life. In the end we made it back to the bridge in good time and had to wait about half an hour for the taxi. Then it started raining. Hard. We were huddled under a tree trying to keep ourselves reasonably dry when we realised that its probably not the smartest thing to do when there is massive lightning bolts cutting through the sky. ... at night. I fell deeply in love with Rocky, and he played with me all of that first night at the hostel. Clambering up my legs and arms, nibbling at my elbows, climbing around my neck and sitting on my head, shoving his paw into my mouth. His tail is really long and strong, kind of like a monkey´s tail and he uses it to swing from branches and hold onto things. I miss him. Baru Volcano

We came to David at night. In the bus we came to know another tourist girl (from Holland). The bus driver helper (Chicken buses have always a bus driver and a helper. The helpers are the ones, especially in Guatemala, who shout the destination of the bus and run behind you and take you to the bus, and the ones who take your baggage and put in on the top of the bus. They run out of the bus, bring the people inside and run to the back of the bus, where ...

... I also helepd to feed some of the animals including our baby anteater, Tina, some baby owls, a jaguarundi and the birds in the tropical bird house. I was lucky enough to be staying on site, with an Israeli girl called Dana, and so was able to see the nocturnal animals such as the ocelots and the kinkajous when they came out to play. During the evenings, I read some books and caught up with events in my diary (I´m even more hopeless at keeping ...

Low key morning. Got to enjoy the pool at our hotel. It was hot heat like Vegas, but when i jumped into the pool it was so cold it almost took my breath away. My parents' friends arrived around noon and they were struck with the misfortune of losing a bag. They were told they weren't sure when they'd get the bag. Luckily my dad has a cell phone to get a hold of them. Went to have lunch at El Patio Mexican food, but for an afternoon meal it was expensive and looked to be big portions ...

Actually we high-tailed it towards Costa Rica, then realized we were lost and put our tail between our legs and turned back around. 15 minutes later we were high-tailing once again, heading up a gradual ascent to Boquete. The weather in Boquete is much cooler. I suppose it is about 70 degrees most of the day. We also get this thing called bajareque, a cool mist that accompanies the breeze.
