... the rest of the game so I only had to say no, really its fine 5 times.
What happened after the game with the whole blood situation was even funnier.
There wasn’t anyone with a bandage (which was clearly all I needed) at the game.
They were all at the basketball game.
So they were insisting that I wait for an ambulance to come. The claim was that there would be a nurse in the ambulance who would “know what to do”
It was ...
... to me was: "he has diabetes. and he got a small cut--and you know how we ghanaians are, we don't take care of things. now he is like this"
I wasn't sure what she meant---i never associated diabetes with open sores, so i googled diabetes to find out more. I'm still not sure i quite get it.
other than that, we had a couple people who were there for 'old age' (that was what the nurse responded when i asked what the people were being treated for)...again ...
... asked for directions from people on the corner of the road but they just pointed us the direction. We then came to a road where we had to go either left or right, the cab driver turned around and asked all of us “left or right?” I was just thinking to myself how would we know, we have been in this country for 12 hours. Somehow we finally made it back to the boat and it was one of the greatest moments for me seeing the ...
Accra, Ghana vanderbyon sunday night, we went to the ghanaian national soccer team (the black stars) game against Sudan. Everyone had been making a huge deal about the game because 1) ghana is supposed to have one of the best soccer teams in all of africa and 2) if the black stars won this game, they qualified for the world cup.
When we got to Osu, we walked through town until we got to the stadium. At the stadium, there ...
Morning: We met at 10, I think and went on our city tour of Accra. We saw Nkrumah's gravesite (he was the leader of the country when they gained independence from England in 54). It was amazing. We got to see the statue that had been in front of his residence that was torn down when he was overthrown. It is missing a head and portion of the leg (this is a bronze statue, by the way). Some one actually recently returned the head and they ...
Accra, Ghana ellebee88... he rememb**ed that he wanted to visit an old custom**. SO we ve**ed off the road, into the bush for atleast 15 minutes until we found this village. (we did this atleast 3 more times!) His friend was the only one in the village with a light – and it came from a solar pow** lamp that Suraj sold him a year ago. It was dark by then, so when we brought out a case of solar lant**ns, the entire village surrounded us like months to a flame. It was awesome watching ...
Accra, Ghana astrophelleOkay, so I've got a blog that’ll be a bit more interesting than the last. Yesterday, I had some music lessons with Uncle Sulley. I WAS going to make redred, but apparently Yefowa didn’t get the memo, so she ended up making redred for dinner, lol. For lunch, Uncle taught me how to fry yams. The yams here are different. They’re these huge white potatoes that are just barely sweeter than regular potatoes. So Yefowa boiled them and I fried them. Then Uncle cooked ...
Medie, Accra, Ghana neilis... we stopped at various back roads along the way to pick up more and more and more people. Soon the minivan was packed to the max, with people inside and with possessions, bikes, and all mann** of **** on the roof. We ended up with 24 people in the back of the van...probably more that double its real capacity and making it a rath** uncomfortable and bloody hot (yes, it was anoth** 40 degree day, plus some humidity) ride. We could have handled that OK, and in fact we w**e quite enjoying ...
Buduburam, Ghana brisko... trees in the background. During other weekends we use to spend time at Champs sports bar which again provided a nice break from African life and allowed us me to catch up on the sporting front as well as grab some western food and have dairy products of which I was deprived living with a local family. During my time in Ghana I lived with the volunteers in one of our host families houses. The family had a large number of family members and there was always people coming ...
