Stop over in Caraz...

Stay at the Chamana...quite the recommendation. A drunk waiting for us at the entrance. Pretty small, not too special town. BUT we stayed in an amazing hostel with a gourmet chef! Awesome treat.

Le Machu Picchu, c´est fait!

... I was but didnt seem to see how to get there (I had just followed the path). Twice I shouted over to them, at first they ere 50 m below me and then 20 m above me. And finally I climbed back up the moutain to try and find them. We met up and were going to enjoy the view but 15mins of showers soaked us and demoralised us, but it cleared up again and we sat down, took some pictures and tried to warm up.

Machu Picchu!!

... that they came in all ages and sizes.

I had a lot of time before my guided tour would start at 10.30. And how I enjoyed just walking and strolling, taking pictures and just trying to take it all in. As it became later in the morning, more and more people turned up. Many tourists, but also many that looked local. Many of them would later by carrying their sleeping children around in their arms – using strollers was not an option. In the distance you could only ...

Trotting along the Inca Trail

... river, as it was raining constantly we held off trekking down there until it was absolutely necessary, unfortunately hearing the sound of rushing water when you are already desperate for the loo didn´t help! I had a bit of a headache when we got there and was cold and wet after my little fall into the stream so I missed lunch, got into some dry clothes and went to sleep. I was woken up by one of the guides who brought me Coca tea and crackers ...

Day#6
We awoke at 3:30am, packed our gear, filled water bottles (thanks for bringing that steripen Gary!) and had breakfast. At 4am, there were already groups lining up for the check point that didn't open until 5:30am. I think there was a race to be the first one at the sungate. Freddy didn't explain this part of the trek too well and we weren't sure if we were supposed to be in a rush to get to the sungate but in the end we ...

Saying goodbye to Machu Picchu

... goodbyes knowing that I will probably never set foot in person here again. However, I now had extremely fond memories of the place which will never be forgotten.

As I write this blog today, my trip was actually taken eight months ago. I am reliving the whole experience and feeling as if my journey was only taken yesterday. Memories are never forgotten.

Thankful for memories.

The curse of Wayna Picchu

... feeling! I HAD CONQUERED WAYNA PICCHU! I had finally made it to the top after a good one hour ordeal, one hour of hard work steep step climbing. I had reached my goal. I was on cloud 9. I was quite elevated. The entire Andes were being displayed right in front of me. What a fantastic and outstanding view of it all, of the whole MACHU PICCHU far below, of its winding road leading to the ruins and of all ...

Machu Picchu at dawn

... us different scenes, different vistas, different ruins and different feelings.

By then it was 9:30AM as we proceeded down the path leading us to the gate, to Wayna Picchu's gate.

My climb was about to START. I was within steps of starting my climb, steps of finally reaching my goal, my goal of reaching the top, the top of a mountain called WAYNA PICCHU!

Thankful for having goals.
