After a good experience at the Wild Rovers hostel in Arequipa we decided to spend four nights at Wild Rovers Cusco. It was certainly busy with a good but very smokey bar and social atmosphere, as with all backpackers like this it certainly isn't the place for a quiet nights sleep, but great for a few drinks.

Cuzco has been a big player in the history of the Incas - a tribe thats been around for as long as Peru exists. Their empire finally ceased to exist after the Spanish came to Peru and took over. ... the place gave it an eerie feeling but made opportunities for pictures more scarce and it lifted and descended most of the day…Banksy was on board and despite his leg being fairly banjaxed (he got the bus up to Machu Picchu) he was determined to climb Waynu Picchu..we went up to WP at about 11am…again another very tough climb but with a spectacular view across to MP…the last bit of the climb is especially tricky as you are almost on your hands and knees going through ...
Cusco and the Sacred Valley

The first stop was Pisac (via a market where we bought straw hats), which is an Incan village that housed the upper classes and also includes the iconic Incan terraces which were used to experiment with crop growth. We stopped for lunch on route to the second stop of Ollantaytambo which formed part of the royal estate of the Incan emperors. From Ollantaytambo we then took the train to Aguas Calientes, where we would spend the night before visiting Machu Picchu ...
