Simon writing… New country, the Philippines! We were quite excited to finally be arriving here as we had heard so many good things! Our plan was to head straight to Puerto Princessa, on Palawan island. It was a long journey through the night to get there, we took a flight from Hanoi in vietnam to Manilla, the capital of the phillipines. ... ll see that in Bali anyway. Here, the sanctuary of the place has been the best bit. Until of course.... Puerto Princesa... where a new constant feeling of I'M BORED has taken over from my previous NO WORRIES, chill out attitude. I'm not sure (well I am) but I think it is highly due to the lack of good beaches (Pristine beach is not good... or pristine for that matter). Today we left Cebu for our final island in the Philippines, Puerto Princesa. Luckily our domestic flight was not delayed this time, so we actually able to spend the afternoon at our new destination.  We are staying in a lovely resort with guest cabins that make the experience feel more like a holiday than backpacking! ... We visited the former home of the Governor to get an amazing view of Honda Bay. We stopped to see a cashew tree…I understand why they’re so expensive now. The pod that it grows in is huge and only yields one nut so a nut yield from a tree isn’t that much. They’re also picked by hand and the people have to wear gloves because the sap burns the skin. Then we finished our tour at a souvenir shop, of course! J

... I got my own little hut with a porch overlooking the beach. It was the best place on my trip so far!

My priority here was figuring out how to secure a spot at the Underground River. Considered a World Heritage Site, it's a national park through which a subterranean river extends 8 kilometers through the Saint Paul Mountain range (although it's not exactly "subterranean"; I mean, it's at sea level although it is within a cave system...my geographical knowledge ...
