    ... 160;Visited one in Strasburg then went north thru the back roads to Paradise and hit some more.  We needed lettuce for salads so we decided to head home.  Reminder....do not look for an open store on Sundays in the small towns in this area since there aren't ANY (grocery and hardware anyway).  We even went down the road to a large one we had been to on Saturday and that was closed so no salads tonight.  Since it was Sunday more of the Amish were ...

    Not wanting to be in a hurry today we took it easy this morning. We headed out of Philadelphia around 10 and decided we had time to drive through Lancaster to see some of the Amish farms.     ... Modern stuff: They don't have electricity in their homes, but he pointed out an electric fence run on a 12 volt battery. He has hydraulic brakes on the buggy. He said the government makes them have lights, tail lights, turn signals and reflectors on the buggys. He said when the government makes rules that make sense to them, they try to comply.

    ... Lancaster was very pretty with the autumn leaves out.
    Arriving in the Amish area near Bird in Hand we stopped at the first quilt shop we saw. Beautiful quilts hanging outdoors on the clothes line and over the railings. Magnificent quilts inside.
