Seuraava ajatus oli, että mennään Kiotoon ja jatketaan siitä Ujiin maistelemaan hiukan aamuteetä, mutta toisin kävi. Yleensä näillä Japan Rail passeilla ei pääse tuohon kaikista nopeimpaan N700 junaan, mutta nyt jostain syystä sellainen kuitenkin laiturille lipui?! Tästä innostuneena päätettiin, että nyt kun kerran kunnon vauhtiin päästään, niin jatketaan kyllä taatusti pidemmälle ...

Today we spent the morning to touring around Kyoto before catching our train back to Tokyo. We stopped to visit the Nijo Castle which was originally bulit in 1603 as the official home of the first Tokugawa Shogun. Although it didn't have the beautiful gardens like the temples it was still a very interesting place. It even had a moat like European castles. We then went to see the Kyoto Imperial Palace. ... legs. Not wanting to be rude, as the excited lady was standing right there beaming down at us as we all ate, Bridget tried some of the more tame items on the plate. The lady took notice, however, and insisted that she try the octopus too. The interaction between the two of them was priceless, and we all had a good laugh watching Bridget choke down the octopus while the Japanese lady giggled with glee at the meager smile covering the disgusted look on Bridget's face ...

... we walked down Philosopher's Road to see some smaller, much less crowded temples along the way. Along this road you can also stop at one of the cute cafes.

One day we took the bus over to Kinkauji Temple, a.k.a Golden Pavilion, and Ryoanji Temple. The Golden Pavilion is stunning. You can stare at it for a long time. Not only is the Temple beautiful, but also the lake and forest setting around it. Ryoanji ...

We zoomed over to Ueno about 5:30 am so we could see the tail end of the fish auctions. Here's what I can say about that: Fish auctions are like every other auction I've been to, with the exception of all the merchandise being layed out frozen on the floor. IT was, once again, just a little disheartening to see how much we consume... I don't think it's worth the extra effort to get to the auction, really. Much excitement getting on the old bullet train. What I'd forgotten about was that the announcers on the trains sound like Steven Hawkings in Japanese, it really is most bizarre! Other quirky little things is that either each line or each station has its own tune, so when you arrive at a station a little synthesiser organ plays out a little ditty. They have tried here to make everything as user friendly as possible with signs/symbols/music for everyone no matter where from ...

... a good place he really is a bit weird.... but it was nice - he was nice kind of lonley we ended up back at the hostle i tried to make some girls come with me to the local bath house because i didnt have the courage to go alone! there are so many mistakes to make! so eventually we talked and watched ren and stimpy until 1-2am then i was a bit too much at the computer - until 3 am and went to sleep the next day i woke up at 10am and we were off to nara love you and miss you daria
