Survived the 1st week of Buenos Aires!

... to put them to work, that its a money maker for them.

The people of Buenos Aires are called “portenos” . They led a totally different lifestyle than what we are used to; they eat late, party late, are super passionate about futbol (soccer) and they would have a coffee before a beer! The politicians are corrupt and the economy sucks but they manage well by hanging out late in the restaurants ...

Im a bit crap really

... where perspective wise, Jon is sitting in the plam of my hand...I like that one.

WE paid a disturbinbg vist to the railway graveyard, where I´ve never seen so much ***** in my life (behind the toilet wall) by this time Im utterly numb to the horrors of Bolivian hygiene. We went to potosi, visited the mint factory which was a bit **** and sucre, where I bought bags of lovely jewellery, and sat in a lovely cafe gazing at the wonderful viewa, next was Samaipata and the damp ...

Don´t cry for me Argentina!!

... scheduled time. And then...she asked if we needed a hotel for the evening. "Er......YEAH!" we said a bit too enthusiastically! And so, we were taken back in to the city in a taxi, and spent the night in a posh hotel in the centre - with dinner included, ALL FOR FREE!! After spending two months in South America in dorm beds and smelly hostels, we were delighted! Good old delay!!

And then it was up at 6 and off to New Zealand!

Watching La Boca

... to say we were all a bit nervous about going to buy the tickets let alone head to the match. A group of about 15 of us, headed over - the only gringos in sight on this Saturday but the kiosk was closed. We headed back to the bus but the group got broken up as some Israeli guys couldn´t cope with the heat and got out of the kitchen. They scooted off to find a taxi because the fear of not finding the bus-stop in this part of town was too much for them. The ...

Back to Buenos Aires

... to rise a bit before heading out. We are experiencing longer days as we head further South. We have three full days of sailing before we reach Cape Horn - then we will spend that day going around the Horn and then up to Ushuaia. Looks like I won't be able to get these travelpods uploaded until then. I don't have as many photos since we have done this trip before and most of you have already seen the photos in the past - but we hope you are enjoying it nonetheless.

Bunsy Aires

... La Boca and San Telmo barrios, but I suppose that just gives me a reason to go back... as if the giant steaks weren´t reason enough! Buenos Aires also provided me with my first opportunity to grease the gears of corruption in South America, with a 100 peso ´fine´ coming to each of Connie, Dunsy and myself after a beer bottle smashed in public during ...

Halyna and BA: week 1- The BA Heat

Dále- as they say in Argentina- mum has been mothering me to write this blog for a couple of days to write this, so i thought i would get it out of the way! Before i start, for the record, the week has not been all doom and gloom and has included MANY cultural observations! It will be a week tomorrow since Tilly left me- and i´m still dearly missing her presence! Things have been anything but smooth sailing with my homestay the last week. For starters, i ...

PAMPAS-ASS TRAVELER PUTS ON AIRS, TAKES TO THE AIR

... Mendoza is okay, a medium-size Argentine city with medium-size pretensions. After several weeks in Chile, I immediately recall why I prefer it to Argentina. It's the difference between Europe and America, the Continent and the UK, rationalism and empiricism. For all its fancy restaurants, I've got nothing to eat. I must've lost ten pounds in Argentina and only partially gained it back in Chile. Hardie K's diet tours anyone ...

Back to BA

We slept in again because we had an early afternoon flight back to Buenos Aires. Upon arrival in BA, we checked into the Broadway Suites then headed out for a walk past the Obelisco to Avenida Florida. Avenida Florida was a huge disappointment. It reminded me of the last block of Powell Street in San Francisco right before the cable car turn around. It was wall to wall people with hawkers, street entertainers, and beggars and ...
