idle awhile was the party spot for my birthday june 2004. i could not have picked a better location. my 1st visit to negril was an all-inclusive (hated it) my 2nd visit to idle awhile was perfect. the web pictures are very accurate. the grounds/beach are beautiful, thanks to Juicy. Juicy made the most beautiful birthday bouqet for the patio "get together". food: a little pricey, but well worth the $ and the long wait. eveything is prepared when ordered. the chefs..prince and courtney made everything i asked for (off-menu items) "no problem". the best bartenders on the beach are sonya, carlton, and mark. any drink, any time "no problem" need i say more, idle awhile is well worth may return visits. Thanks to all the staff for making my stay most enjoyable: sonya, mark, carlton, juicy, kingsley, prince, courtney, and last but not least sexy maurice. see you guys soon.

    Pleased!

    still idling..............................................

    great place to stay!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Sharon you saved my vacation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

juicy has a wonderful spirit and a sincere heart

The place is beautiful and so is the staff

Thank you charmaine for going out of your way so many times for us.

Sonya, David says hi and to call him, sorry mark but he wants to continue his relationship long distance........

The only draw back and complaint i have is that idle awhile says families welcome but i think they forgot families include children. Need to make major improvement better yet create a childrens program or forget the family welcome marketing

major disappointment in that area. But, thanks to juicy and other staff members my children had a wonderful 3wks. marcia thank you/stop running up and down!!!!! put your feet up

thank you again sharon for taking care of all of us we love you!

    Yeah mon

stayed at the idle awhile from june 17-25th for a girlfriend's birthday and had the time of our lives...this small intimate hotel is a wonderful place to kick back relax and let the staff take care of you... the rooms are nice we had a beachfront suite and the contemporary decor is nice. The only draw back from this room is that the only air conditioned room is in the bedroom so the rest of the suite tends to be hot but it cools down at night. but i hear that fwith the other room categories the whole room is kept cool by the AC. The staff was excellent, grounds well kept and maintained, food was great...i really had no complaints and would stay there again... Sonya, Mark, Kingsley, Carlton, Marcia, Juicey, Prince and Maurice (sorry if i left out names...) you guys did a wonderful job!!! we will be back!!!!

    Can't Wait To Go Back!

    from

Unfamiliar with Negril hotels, I was somewhat unsure about booking a place on the internet. But when I first laid eyes on Idle Awhile, I knew I had made the right choice.

When I arrived, I found a lushly enveloped 13-room resort, both tasteful and refined, well-located in the center of Negril's 7-mile beach, offering well-designed airy rooms, inviting verandahs and beautiful grounds. It is as pleasing to the aesthetic as it can be. Add a relaxed beachfront cafe and --by far-- the most comfortable lounge chairs to be found on the beach, and you've found heaven!

The staff here is just fabulous -- they really do go out of their way to ensure that your every need is met and they are exceptionally warm and friendly people. Juicy -- the ever-talented gardener and groundskeeper-- will delight you with his stories and "survival" tips.

And don't miss Chisty's Ital Stew -- you'll be hooked and wanting more of this Rastaman's delicious Ital dishes!

If you're loooking to escape the madness of the all-inclusive hotel while still enjoying it's creature comforts, you will simply love Idle Awhile. Zero risk here.

We have visited Jamaica several times and plan on retiring there one day. Our favorite place is Negril, although we have traveled the Island always looking for new adventures. This year we decided to try a new resort in Negril. After much research we selected Idle Awhile. We were a little concerned making the change because we couldn't remember Idle Awhile from our previous trips to Negril. Upon arrival, after our week long adventure into the mountains, we were delighted by this intimate establishment. The grounds are truly breath taking. Juicy, the gardner, takes pride in his craft and the results speak for themselves. The staff, specifically Carlton, Romeo, Vanessa, Natalie, Mark, Kingsley, Robert, and Chisty, made us feel like family. The owner, Jane, visited almost daily and always had time for her guests. This resort is small, with 13 units, and most of the guests got to know each other.

To the entire staff at Idle Awhile:

Thank you for making our vacation better than we could have hoped for.

We hope to see you in 2004.

The best kept secret in negril

    from

I have made several trips to Negril (over 10) and have stayed at some very nice resorts, both big and small, but this was by far the best place ever! We were fortunate to have the upstairs one bedroom suite (room 205). The room was spacious and nicely decorated. The veranda had an ocean view with a hammock, couch, table & chairs. The staff (Mark, Conley, Juicy, Romeo, Carlton, Rasta) couldn't have taken better care of us. After visiting several islands, this is definately my new home away from home!

We both just loved Idle Awhile

    from

My husband and I are very apprehensive about this trip. We have been to Maui, Cancun and the Bahamas. We have cruised, we have stayed at resorts. This time we really just wanted to pick a place where the weather would be nice, we wanted a nice beach, fine dining and a quiet relaxing atmosphere.

Idle Awhile was just what we needed. There were a few things that irritated us, but these things were minor and mostly were more Jamaica related rather that Idle Awhile related. This place in Negril is very laid back. Very nice accomodations. We did upgrade to the One Bedroom Suite. The only thin I can complain about is the location entire side of your unit (if you have the upper seaview) is right next to the compressor units for the kitchen of the Charela Inn next door. I must say, it wasn't too much of a hindrance. When we were in our bedroom, we had the air on, so we couldn't hear it. When we were in the kitchen, it was usually for a short time to prepare a snack and we were right back at the beach or in front of the TV in the other room. The bedroom was very serene. The bathroom has plenty of space for 2 people to get ready comfortably. Closet space is more than ample, dresser space was more than ample. The shower and bathtub themselves (they are combined) were just okay, nothin luxurious, but we were fine with it. We both were always so excited to get to the beach or to get to dinner that we were just in and out of the shower anyway, so it worked out nicely. The noise from the compressors could be a problem if you like to sit out on the veranda in the afternoon or early evenings. In the early morning hours it isn't running yet.

This suite has plenty of room. Extremely spacious. We used every part of every room every day. It was nice to have the kitchen, we both are morning coffee drinkers. We both suggest purchasing some Blue Mountain coffee and making some in your room each morning. It is sumptious.

We didn't dine that often at Idle Awhile. A few continental breakfasts and some frozen drinks at lunch, maybe 2 dinners. There is just a lot to experience, we didn't want to limit ourselves to just Idle Awhile.

The staff is exemplary, Juicy, the groundskeeper is awesome and the foliage is very lush. The security is on top of things and they look out for you all the time.

We came back very tan, refreshed and relaxed. We would definitely go back to Negril, Jamaica and I don't think I would consider staying anywhere else. OF course, if you prefer an all inclusive with tons of activities, this might not be your cup of tea. This is a relaxed atmosphere, do things at your own pace kind of place. Room service was excellent and all the meals we had at Idle Awhile were reasonably priced. Mike the bartender is great at any frozen fruit drink your heart desires, you can even make up your own.

    We had a wonderful time!

    Paradise

    from

Idle Awhile is a small inn located in the middle of 7 mile beach in Negril, Jamaica. The location is perfect, on a more quiet section of the beach and walking distance to many great places to eat. Across the street is Best of the West, a jerk chicken stand, and nearby is Margaritaville and The Boat Bar, a great place for breakfast. Idle Awhile itself, serves amazing food, but half the fun in Negril is sampling all the wonderful places to eat.

About the rooms. AMAZING. We stayed in the ocean front deluxe room and feel no need to ever upgrade. The rooms have this wonderful carribean flavor, the airconditioner has climate control and the room has this awesome porch attached to the room. The porch has a tiled floor and it is covered. It has a ceiling fan, a padded bench with tons of pillows and lights to read by in the evening. Across from the bench is a great table for playing cards and a comfy chair to sit it.

The grounds at Idle Awhile are fantastic. Juicy, the gardner is amazing. He is the hardest working person I have ever seen. He created a paradise at Idle Awhile.

And last, the staff. Such attention to detail. Our maid would leave us a pitcher of ice water every afternoon and also fill up our cooler! The staff is so warm and friendly and they make sure that your trip is perfect.

Honestly, you can't go wrong with Idle Awhile. It's heaven on earth.

    Perfect Summer Retreat!

    from

What an awesome summer getaway! We flew out of Philly at 7am and were on the beach at Idle Awhile at noon (Ja-time)! Loved the intimacy of the property and the experty manicured garden/grounds! Very friendly staff and bartenders were the coolest! My fiance and I wanted so much to return for our honeymoon this summer...but no rooms available for our travel dates! If you want "laid back"...Idle Awhile is your place! We just kicked back on our balcony and listened to ocean. Beach area is pristine but beware of panhandlers!! I'd reccomend Idle Awhile to anyone who wants real rest and relaxation. Plus, the summer rates are incredible for what you get in return!!

    Loved Idle Awhile

    from

We just returned on May 10th and loved Idle Awhile. It is small ... only 13 rooms ... 2 with kitchens. Our room was on the ground floor with ocean view. It was decorated so tropical and was immaculate. We were only 44 steps to the bar and eating area and 10 more steps to the water. The beach was very clean and the foilage on the property just beautiful. The bar was small but very friendly and the restaurant served a somewhat limited menu. Breakfasts and lunches were very good. The thing that we loved best was that the staff was so accommodating and friendly and we got to know everyone staying there. It was as if you went as a couple and then met up with a bunch of friends. We will definitely go back to Idle Awhile. It is located in the middle of seven mile beach and you can walk anywhere from it and very safely. It is a laid back resort with a very personal touch. I would go to the beach at 7:00am by myself and Marcus would bring me my pot of coffee. It was so peaceful.

It's great not having to worry about money or the cost of everything for a change. If you're hungry you can order from the snack menu. We went on on a glass bottom boat with Captain Black. He had such a cool laid back demeanor. We sailed alongside the cliffs and took in the views as well as the coral and schools of fish. We dressed up because I really wanted to try the fisherman’s plate I kept hearing about that is always offered on the second formal night. It was good. We each got one and then split the prime rib. I’m glad we split the second entrée because it was also good and the fisherman’s plate wasn’t that ...

For dinner, we decided to go to Neptune's. It was pouring rain, fortunately we had an umbrella. When we arrived, we were still a little drenched (I had on flip flops because I had blisters on my feet from the fins). One of the waiters came up to us and gave us napkins to dry off on. Since it was raining, they had the curtains down. We were originally sitting at a table close to ...
