We spent a good hour at the top of Petra looking at the Monastery and taking in all the spectacular views of Petra below, the desert and surrounding hills. We did wonder how many people did make the trek up the steep hill to see the Monastery as it wasn’t an easy walk. For those that have visited Petra and not seen the Monastery, they have truly missed out.

De volgende dag hebben we de toeristische route door de oude stad Petra gelopen. Het was erg druk, misschien omdat het op de heilige dag (vrijdag) was, of omdat de Arabieren gratis toegang hadden. Het stikte in ieder geval van de Arabieren en westerse toeristen. ...
PETRA
... travels to Petra from Aqaba and leaves when it is full. This means there is no set time, just show up, get a seat and wait till it is full. There is also no a/c on this bus and you stop by rapping your rings on the window to let the driver know you would like to stop. About half way to Petra most of the locals had gotten off along the roadside leaving us wondering if we got on the right bus. Sure enough we did and we had another adventure along the way.

Petra
The trip from Dahab to Jordon ended in Wadi Musa. From Aqaba we got a mini bus there, about 150km north of Aqaba. And it was immediately obvious how much more western Jordon is, to say Egypt, Sudan etc. More western dress, streets clean, footpaths not broken, cars not parked on them, housing, shops etc. Almost feel I'm home!!!
