... influence. Much of it is unloved and needs a fresh coat of paint but given its age it's understandable. In the city's there are lots of apartments and few houses with backyards. Flying over São Paulo with a population of 11 million people was an eye opener. That place is massive with everyone living on top of each other. Those living in the favelas are usually lower socioeconomic or depending on the town middle class but interestingly these homes are usually set into ...

Links rica/brazil/praia-mole Florianopolis was like a breath of fresh air after the chaos of Rio. Our Pousada was situated at the end of Lagoa da Conceicao, an area with just a row of shops and cafes dotted by the water. We were surrounded by nature maybe a little too surrounded when we stumbled on the massive Larry the Lizard outside our ...

The place we arrived at looked completely dead and we walked around what was essentially someone's estate calling out for ten minutes until someone popped their head out to confirm ...

The journey to get to Florianopolis from Curitiba was quite a nightmare. Our bus that was scheduled to leave at 5:00pm departed at around 9:30pm instead and along the road there was quite a bit of traffic, which moved our scheduled arrival time in the city from 10:00pm to 5:00am. Coupled with the fact that I was getting a cold, had a fever on board and almost lost my cellphone, this made for one unpleasant ride.

I actually then spent our first day ...

This beach was really nice with big boulders on the northern point and a few restaurants and drinks shops on the sand. There's always so many tables and chairs on the beaches here it ruins it a bit.

Still not much swell so I didn't go surfing. You can tell it gets really waves here. We went for a couple of swims and relaxed on the sand. After a couple of hours we went to get lunch from ...
