... minutes was our go to. after getting back to the machu picchu area, with the fog cleared and the majority of tourists now headed up to wayna picchu, leaving us the run of the park, we could look back up at the now visible wayna picchu and wonder at how you could even get to the top of such a step peak so relatively easy. we toured the site for the majority of the day, seeing the hotspots and marveling at the craftsmanship of the masonry that has endured all this time. much of it more ...
Lima, Peru rien... as I did with the barbecue sauce as well) – some sort of peruvian cookies instead of graham crackers and kebab sticks instead of coat hangers – but all in all it seemed to be pretty realistic. The interesting thing was trying to find stuff for a fire – I hadn’t really planned on that part. Anyway, we managed to find stuff that would burn and the smores were a HUGE hit. Some were burned, but everyone eventually got the science ...
Lima, Peru forbes.thompsonWe arrive at Lima Airport, Peru. The airport is in the north of the city and we have a 40 minute taxi ride south to the area called Miraflores where we are staying. Our first impression is how Americanised is the City. This is a place that McDonalds, Burger King, Starbucks and other US chains have colonised. I imagine that if you were an ex pat US person sent to work in Peru you would not feel that you had been sent to the end of the world. On a more depressing note, the ...
Lima, Peru suenson_taylors... area is mostly the old, colonial style – colorful, geometric buildings, no more than two stories – many have intricate window designs carved out of wood. The Plaza de Armas is the main square in Lima. The palacio and the cathedral sit around the outside of this plaza. There are little alleyways leading off of the square that are pedestrian only with lots of shops, cafes, and bars.
We then headed to the coast ...
... will come to the reserve in the end, at this point. Still, it is a little awkward and unpleasant to sit in the same room with him while he chats with this girl he met in Buenos Aires. Not that I was surprised to learn he'd met someone else. Sigh, well at least nobody can claim my life is boring. I never expected travel to be all good! Anyway... Lima. It is not the most attractive city in the world. Or the cleanest. Or most ...
Lima, Peru abulia... however the highlight for me (and the reason i wanted to go in the first place) was the special photography exhibit they were featuring. Named Yuyanapaq, meaning To Remeber in Quechua, it showed photos of the horror experienced in Peru between 1980 and 200. Remeber the terrorist group The Shining Path anyone????
It was incredibly interesting all the same.
So we were both keen to get out of Lima as quickly as possible. Next stop Huarez.
... in advance. Our room, #202, is probably the largest in the house, away from the street, with a double bunk, a matrimonial bed (called a double back home), a table for four, walk in closet, private bathroom, and a large window. We received breakfast on arrival around 9 this morning, although technically we don't deserve one until tomorrow, but we ate it anyway.
Our bus trip to Lima was fine. We bought the highest price service ...
... busy and well policed so had no problems. We enjoyed several great meals along the walk. It was always overcast, which I was told, was very common for Lima. I enjoyed the National Museum and learned a little of the early life of Lima. The Polos Azules market was a nice leisurely stroll from the hotel.
Lima, Peru rschwabe... I left the hotel. Left the key at reception (a practice unfamiliar to me - the reception lady had to remind me as I was walking out the door) and took a taxi to the historic city centre. It was on the short ride that I had my first glimpse of Lima by daylight - loud and crowded were my first impressions, but not really overwhelmed as the guidebooks suggested I might be...
The road was blocked off from ...
