i volunteered my normal shift yesterday from 8-3 in Ward A---community member inpatient ward, general care. When i was there, one of the doctors (a really nice, smiley man...light skinned with a goatee and glasses and slightly crooked front teeth) who came through invited me back to the maternity ward to observe some of their regular procedures, so i went back to the hospital today and wanted to tell you more about it because it was a very stimulating ...
Legon, Ghana ellebee88... hospital is going to be a lot of fun. The girls there seem to really like me and really really like the fact that im an obroni for some reason. One girl was trying to teach me phrases in twi the whole day, one girl was really sweet and came to get me anytime she saw a doctor come through the ward or anytime she was going to see a patient--and she also would always tell me the diagnosis and show me the labels on the medications, another girl stood with me and translated ...
Accra, Greater Accra, Ghana ellebee88... rush and get changed for the night because everyone was going to the clubs in Accra. Once all cleaned up we went out and experienced the night life. It was a lot of fun to say the least. We first went to a small bar, where there were all Semester at Sea students, and then a club close by where there were also only Semester at Sea students. We all had a blast! We got back to the ship safely that night, thank goodness.

... i leaned over to gabby and asked if this was an organized cheer for the team that everyone just happened to know, and he said actually no, it was a gospel song.
If i hadn't been so taken back by the religious fervor of ghanaians up to this point, i think i might have been more surprised. I didn't find it surprising that everyone sang it--i just found it weird for the moment.
anyway, in the ...
... we got to play with. There was loud music here, as well. And, again, everything was done outdoors. Our food was rice with spicy red sauce on the side and fried chicken (this is offered everywhere). There was an option to have banku (a large ball of dough, eaten with your hands) with spicy red sauce and spicy tilapia soup, but they fed this only to the Ghanaians, not to us. They offered for us to taste the soup, and no one in our group ...
Accra, Ghana ellebee88... India 20 years ago. Being vegetarian is sup** hard tho – I’m surviving right now but might become desparate in Mali. Local food is v**y unappetizing. It’s incredible how hard it is h**e to get food to an edible form. Music and the sound of people celebrating fun**als is a constant, as are the smiles on peoples faces. I visited a local market yest**day which was a real eye open**. Constant assault of smells and faces. Just being th**e was tiring!
... I could talk to Bernard about taking lessons. I want to see how much they’ll cost me at the school, cause I can’t afford much. Hopefully, if I can’t afford the school’s classes, Bernard will allow me to take lessons with Alfred (there’s drama, I won’t get into it, especially because I don’t know all the details).
Anyway, so after we visited Bernard, we went to Accra. We took a tro-tro, first to visit Uncle’s sister ...
... but worth a try!!), grabbed our clodbb** and started hitching to anything that came past. Eventually a sup**bus stopped and we jumped on, paid anoth** 4,000 FCA each and sped of into the distance. It was so good to be on our way again and we barrelled through the dusk and into the night at 100 km's + an hour, weaving past trucks, bikes, scoot**s, pedestrians, goats, and cattle. We finally madfe it to Bobo arond 9pm, exhausted but just v**y v**y happy to be th**e. 2) The next day ...

... where we were greeted by some locals one of them who claimed to be the chief of the lands (although I am not sure he was), he then in turn started to tell us about the lake and what they were doing there planting trees to help with the lake etc etc, after the little talk he did he then went on to say how they needed money for the planting of trees. Myself and the volunteers did not want to give him any money as he was a bit of a joker and I seriously doubt that any ...
